    PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Performs and documents accurate clinical assessments of patients on admission and throughout hospital stay according to established standards.
    • Identifies actual and potential problems for which the patient is at risk. Demonstrates acquired knowledge and skills and a commitment to excellence at Christiana Care.
    • Initiates, follows and modifies a nursing plan of care based on assessment and diagnosis.
    • Assesses and documents patient response to interventions.
    • Individualizes teaching methods to best suit patient/family learning needs and abilities. Revises educational plans to meet needs as they change.
    • Encourages patient/family participation in the discharge process and informed decision making.
    • Administers medications in a safe and effective manner.
    • Responds effectively to patient crisis situations as outlined in standards.
    • Initiates and participates in team meetings and interdisciplinary discussions regarding patient care or practice. Elicits input from other team members. Hand-offs are accurate and include the patient or family's input to assure concerns or needs are being addressed.
    • Demonstrates skills and knowledge necessary to provide care to neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric including knowledge of growth and development, the ability to obtain and interpret information to identify patient needs and to provide the care needed.
    • Establishes and maintains a sound knowledge base of nursing care necessary for specific patient population. Shares clinical knowledge through mentoring of others.
    • Utilizes effective verbal and written communication skills with patients, families, co-workers, management, physicians and ancillary department staff. Demonstrates the ability to maintain healthy relationships with colleagues. Able to apply key Relationship Based Care skills in all interactions.
    • Effectively delegates duties and tasks to other nursing staff after assessment of capability and scope of responsibilities. Encourages each team member's contributions.
    • Enhances the professional growth of self by staying current in clinical practice, incorporating research into practice and participating in councils, teams, committees, and task forces. Supports Nursing Professional Governance activities.
    • Represents the patient when the patient cannot represent self. Seeks available resources to help understand, formulate, and implement ethical decisions.
    • Participates in Nurse to Nurse Peer Feedback.
    • Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established CCHS and departmental safety rules and practices; reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.
    • Performs other related duties as required.
    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

    Current RN licensure in the State of Delaware; BLS certification

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

    Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN within 3 years of hire

    6 months or more professional registered nursing experience.

    ADDITIONAL SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

    ACLS certification

    PALS certification or obtained within 6 months of hire.

    ADDITIONAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

    BSN preferred or within 3 years of hire with educational contract

    12 months or more professional registered nursing critical care experience required; ICU/PACU/ER preferred

    MRI safety education upon hire and annually thereafter

    Critical Care Med Class

    Dysrhythmia Management or test out

    Moderate sedation

    Advanced Hemodynamics Monitoring workshop
