    Advanced Energy is currently seeking Mechanical Design Engineering Interns to support development activities across our North American design sites. Successful candidates will carry out their internships at Advanced Energy's sites in Colorado, Minnesota, New York, or California. They will work with an experienced engineering team, closely collaborating on the development of high-performance, precision, efficient and cost-effective power conversion, metrology, or controls solutions. Both undergraduate and post-graduate candidates will be considered for fall and School-year internships. Candidates should be actively pursuing degree programs at one of the following institutions: University of Colorado, Colorado State University, University of Minnesota, University at Buffalo, Rochester Institute of Technology, California Polytechnic State University, San Jose State University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, or Stanford University. This position is expected to work 40 hours per week.

    REPONSIBILITIES:

    Candidates may perform and support design activities related to any of the following:

  • Active participant in a core team to meet schedule, cost, and customer satisfaction goals
  • Assist in the development, testing, and de-bugging of prototype power supply units
  • Analyze test data and reports against functional and performance specifications
  • Interfacing with internal departments to ensure cost and schedule goals are met
  • Design sheet-metal enclosures, stamped and extruded heatsinks, cable assemblies
  • Efficient packaging of electronic circuitry in protective enclosures
  • 3D layout of printed circuit board assemblies
  • Modeling, simulation, and design for thermal, acoustic and vibration performance
  • Prototype testing
  • QUALIFICATIONS:

    Required:

  • Ability to work in a lab environment building, modifying, analyzing, and testing prototypes
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to meet schedule requirements and define priorities without direct supervision
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Windows-based platforms and with computer-based design and analysis tools, working knowledge of MS Office Suite
  • Preferred:

  • Experience with Solidworks, Pro-E, CFDesign, Flotherm, ANSYS and/or Solidworks Simulation
  • Experience with electronic packaging and/or thermal management
  • EDUCATION:

  • Candidates working towards a bachelor's degree with a minimum of 40 credits towards a Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or equivalent
  • Candidates working towards MS or Ph.D. degrees in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Preference will be given to those with an Electronics Packaging or Thermal Management focus, but other fields consistent with Advanced Energy's needs will also be considered
  • GPA > 3.25
