    Description
    Job Summary:

    Prepares, examines, and analyzes chromosomes found in biological specimens, such as amniotic fluids, bone marrow, and blood, to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of genetic diseases.

    Essential Duties:
    • Perform routine wet lab duties, including but not limited to harvest, cell culture, dropping and banding.
    • Performs analysis of G-banded or FISH slides in order to determine the presence of any structural abnormalities.
    • Performs case review for chromosome and FISH samples and writes reports.
    • Assists in trouble shooting quality issues in the wet lab
    • Provides support to the lab manager in staffing and scheduling
    • Provides support to the lab manager in tracking TAT, helping to insure timely reporting of cases
    • Performs more complex and/or non-routine cytogenetic procedures, and regularly reviews work performed to ensure procedures are carried out in accordance with orders from directors and established policies and procedures.
    • Performs routine QA/QC and maintenance on the laboratory equipment
    • Ensures the quality assurance of laboratory equipment.
    • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
    Education:
    • Required: Bachelor's degree in biology or related field.
    Experience:
    • Required: Eight years' experience as a Cytogenetic Technologist.
    Certification/Licenses/Registration:
    • Required: Certification/registration as a Medical Technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists or certification as a Clinical Lab Specialist in Cytogenetics (NCA).
