Job description
Provides age and developmentally appropriate activities and assistance in instructional and/or recreation activities for students for the After School Education and Safety (ASES) Program under grant funding and the Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELOP) with the Child Development and Child Care (CDCC) Department.
Coordinates a variety of activities aligned with students' needs, interests, grade-level State Standards, and the Quality Standards for Expanded Learning as delineated by the State of California.
Supervises and monitors students to ensure their physical safety and social emotional growth; and to establish and maintain a positive learning environment.

All positions are part-time. Various opportunities exist for permanent and on call (temporary) assignments. The eligibility list will be used to fill both permanent and substitute (on-call) positions.
Permanent positions are 9.25 months per year, 6 hours per day (Monday through Friday), and include full benefits for the employee only.
Substitute positions are on call and as needed and are 6 hours per day. Work shifts are primarily during the hours of 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Substitute employees are paid a fixed hourly rate at the first step only. Assignments may be in any part of the district boundaries (Glendale, La Crescenta, or Montrose).

Provides opportunities for students to succeed through developing and strengthening their academic and social development.
Provides supervision to children under the direction of the CDCC Department.
Works as part of the site team to design and implement age appropriate after
school enrichment activities.
Uses curricular programs and resources as provided by the CDCC Department.
Ensures all ASES/ELOP curriculum is utilized.
Follows established procedures when reporting unusual situations and/or incidents.
Manages program components and provides daily supervision of site-based personnel.
Displays a positive attitude toward the program, students, parents/guardians, and other school staff.
Ensures respectful use of and maintains physical space used by staff and students.
Maintains a successful program by planning, organizing, and implementing events such as Family Nights and field trips.
Attends and participates in ASES/ELOP and other required meetings; special events and, trainings as required.
Guides students to develop and strengthen their academic skills, and encourages participation in enrichment activities.
Selects a variety of activities appropriate and of interest to students of various age groups.
Assists with ASES/ELOP enrollment; maintains and updates attendance forms.
Ensures that ASES/ELOP staff sign-in sheets and children's sign-in sheets are complete for Head Teacher and may be required to deliver to the CDCC office.
Reviews attendance records, collects attendance data, and maintains files (including behavior notifications).Follows all ASES/ELOP program policies, procedures, and conducts monthly emergency drills.
Implements a well-rounded program that will facilitate all aspects of youth development including activities that will: Provide positive self-concepts; encourage students to think, reason, question, and experiment; enhance physical development, teamwork, and cooperation; facilitates student-led activities.
Assists in class supervision on field trips.Performs other related duties as assigned.

High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Experience
One year of experience working with students in a school setting or recent volunteer experience in a similar program.
Desirable
Written and oral proficiency in a second language.

Benefits for permanent employees who work 4 or more hours per day include medical, dental, vision and life insurance.
Salary:
The beginning and ending salary steps are shown on each examination announcement.
Permanent employees with satisfactory service receive salary increases upon completion of their probationary period and at one-year intervals thereafter, up to the maximum rate.
Holidays:
Regular classified employees are entitled to pay for authorized holidays, provided they were in a paid status during any portion of the working day immediately preceding or succeeding the holiday.
Sick Leave:
One day of sick leave earned per month, accumulation is unlimited.
Retirement:
All new employees who work half time or more must become members of the California Public Employees Retirement System and the Federal Social Security program.
Contributions are withheld from salary. Employees may become eligible for retirement at age 50 with a minimum of five years service.Application Process:

A review of the applicants' experience and qualifications will be conducted.
Based on that evaluation, a limited number of applicants whose qualifications best meet the current needs of the district will be invited to participate in the next step of the examination process.
The examination process will consist of one or more related test parts covering any subject matter appropriate to the duties of the position.
Qualified applicants will be advised of the test components and weights prior to the administration of the first test part.
Eligibility List:
Candidates successfully completing all phases of the application and examination procedure will be ranked on the appropriate eligibility list according to their total examination scores.
This list is normally in effect for one year.Classification:
When a vacant position is to be filled, the top three reachable ranks from the eligibility list are contacted for employment interviews.
The supervisor of the vacant position will interview those candidates and may make a selection from any one of them.
Depending on the vacancy, current employees in the same classification who have a transfer request on file, may also be interviewed.
New employees must serve a six-month or one-year probationary period, depending on the classification involved.Fingerprint Requirement:
California state law requires that all classified employees be fingerprinted. Candidates are responsible for paying the fees.
Certificate of Tuberculosis Examination:
New employees must furnish proof that within the last 60 days they have had a Mantoux tuberculin skin test.

Mandatory Child Abuse Reporting Training (AB1432): As a state requirement, all prospective employees of the district are required to complete the Mandated Reporter Educators Training course, prior to their start date of employment.
Veterans Preference:
Five additional points of credit are added in entry-level examinations to the final passing score of qualified veterans showing 30 days or more service during time of war (10 points for disabled veterans) upon presentation of proof of veterans' status (Form DD-214).
This evidence must be presented during the examination procedure. No credit will be given after this period.Reminder:
