    Description
    The Acute Care Technician assists the professional nursing staff by performing specific functions related to patient care in the Emergency Department. The Acute Care Tech works under the direct supervision of the RN and is accountable to the Patient Care Coordinator and Nurse Director. They will utilize an appropriate knowledge base and skill set to communicate and interact with patients, families, and visitors of all age groups while being sensitive to their cultural and religious beliefs.

    Performance Expectations:
    • Utilizes the ability to perform EKG tracing and correctly place telemetry monitor leads on patients.
    • Utilizes the ability to assist professional nursing staff in the caring of patients requiring emergency resuscitation.
    • Utilizes the ability to perform phlebotomy and collection of specimens according to policy and procedure.
    • Utilizes the ability to document vital signs and patient encounters appropriately in the EMR.
    • Utilizes the ability to set up sterile trays and maintain the sterile field while assisting physicians with various procedures.
    • Utilizes the ability to tolerate physically demanding tasks such as moving equipment and patients while taking safety measures for both oneself and/or the patient.
    • Utilizes the ability to stock linens and supplies according to PAR levels in the ED.
    • Utilizes the ability to use proper phone etiquette.
    • Utilizes the ability to provide 1:1 monitoring for suicide precaution, restraint use, de-escalation and peaceful interventions.
    • Utilizes the ability to clean rooms terminally and in between patients discharged.
    Qualifications:

    Education/Skills

    High school diploma or equivalent required. Must complete education/training on EKG, lab site session, patient transport, Suicide precautions, 1:1 monitoring, restraint use, and de-escalation and peaceful interventions education/training required annually.

    Work Experience:

    Related work experience preferred.

    Mental Demands: Perform tasks quickly and cooperate with others. Takes orders and follow directions precisely. Must execute initiative and understand emotional stress of patients, families, and other staff during emergency or crisis situations. Must understand and utilize appropriate coping mechanisms in dealing with death and dying.
