    The Town is seeking applicants for a Staff Accountant. The position is salary exempt with a range of pay starting at $65,678 to $88,271 annually. Eligible for an increase after 6 months.

    Essential Functions

    Accounting

    • Performs intermediate professional accounting work in maintenance and review of fiscal records, according to generally accepted accounting principles, established procedures, departmental guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
    • Maintains complex fiscal records to Town's assets, liabilities, revenues, and expenditure/expenses, applying professional accounting principles and methods.
    • Ensure maintenance of proper audit trails, verification, and reconciliation actions for all processed work according to department policies and procedures.
    • Performs Annual Comprehensive Financial Report.
    • Performs Month End reconciliation of accounts.
    • Manages Business License System.
    • Monitors and maintains revenue and expenditures, including Capitol Investment Projects (CIP), preparing various financial analyses, reviewing, and analyzing budget requests and assisting with budget preparation.
    • Provides back up support for payroll and payables.
    • Assists external auditors in annual audit.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Grants

    • Develops forms, processes, procedures, and policies for the purpose of implementing a consistent grant application methodology.
    • Researches grant opportunities for the purpose of developing additional funding resources for both current and proposed services, programs and administrative operations as well as serving as a clearinghouse for potential grant funding opportunities.
    • Drafts and coordinates grant applications according to application requirements across all Town departments.
    • Understanding the objectives and deliverables of each grant and reviewing them thoroughly; creating Grant Summary for each grant.
    • Developing and maintaining equitable allocations of resources, including direct and indirect costs, across different grants.
    • Identifying, collecting, and organizing all necessary billing documentation to maximize reimbursement according to grant terms.
    • Submitting grant billing in a timely manner while adhering to grantor specifications.
    • Conducting proactive follow-up and collection activities that foster positive relationships with grantor agency personnel.
    • Effectively preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual schedules for governmental and private foundation grants.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    Previous grant related experience strongly preferred. Experience with Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, Outlook)and related software applications including but not limited to web-based reporting software as is used with many grant platforms. Superior oral and written communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with internal and external partners. Excellent organizational skills and proven ability to meet deadlines. Excellent time management skills. Meticulous attention to detail. Ability to multi-task and shift priorities. Excellent computer skills and ability to enhance and learn new skills.

    Education and Experience

    Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field and considerable experience working in a municipal accounting position with grant writing and management, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Three years' experience with non-profit grants management and/or accounting, state or federal grants. Experience with state and federal contracts and grants, including implementing a cost allocation plan.

    Physical Requirements

    This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting and repetitive motions, frequently requires speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel and occasionally requires standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating machines and observing general surroundings and activities; work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
