    JOB TITLE: CNC Machinist/Programmer II

    DEPARTMENT: Machine Shop
    REPORTS TO: Machine Shop Team Leader
    SUPERVISES: None
    FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

    JOB SUMMARY

    Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of machined components to support the company objectives and strategies and meet or exceed internal and regulatory Quality Standards.

    DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

    CNC Programmer - Responsible for providing CNC program for machined components to support Manufacturing and Quality. Duties may include:
    • Writes instruction sheets and cutter lists to guide setup and operation of machine. Writes program of machine instructions in symbolic language to regulate movement of machine along cutting path. Compares computer printout with original program sheet to assure accuracy of machine instructions. Revises program to eliminate instruction errors or omissions. Observes operation of machine on trial run to prove programmed instructions.
    Machinist - Responsible for collaborating with Machine Shop Team Leader and Engineering staff to provide machined components to support Manufacturing and Quality. Duties may include:
    • Build and/or repair components as required for Auxiliary and Molding machines. Ex. EOAT, stretch rods, ejector bars, etc.
    • Build and/or repair quality gauges and equipment components as required.
    • Build and/or repair components as required for Decoration and Assembly equipment. Ex. spin weld dials, offset print mandrels, handle weld mandrels, etc.
    Extrusion and Reheat Stretch Blow Mold Design and Build - Responsible for collaborating with Engineering staff to ensure that molds are optimal for running production efficiently; also responsible for providing Tooling expertise in general to Engineering and Molding operations to achieve highly efficient performance. Duties may include:
    • Builds and/or repair new and used mold components as required.
    • Analyzes specifications or mold/tool requirements, lays out fabrication processes and creates and repairs molds, cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and machinists' hand tools.
    • Identify opportunities and implement improvements in current manufacturing methods and processes to improve schedule performance and to reduce manufacturing costs.
    • Continually identify and justify improvement opportunities for cost, productivity, downtime, and scrap.
    • Proper operation of overhead crane and ability to operate a forklift is required.
    • Perform mold maintenance on extrusion and reheat stretch blow molds.
    • Conduct investigations, develop root cause analysis, determine countermeasures, and document method.
    Quality - Responsible for insuring molds promote a high level of manufacturing efficiency. Representative duties include:
    • Contributes to design reviews of new mold designs to detect and prevent failure modes by identifying critical or significant design and process characteristics that require special controls.
    • Critique mold designs for Design of Manufacturability and optimum molding performance and maintenance
    • Troubleshoot processing problems manufacturing has for quality issues including dimensional issues, flash, short shots, burn areas, flow marks & bubbles, etc., develop root cause analysis, determine countermeasures, and document method of corrective action.
    REQUIRED SKILLS / ABILITIES:
    • Operation of manual mills, grinders, lathes, and mill power within a tolerance of +/-.001"
    • Be able to work under time pressure, prioritize, and compete tasks in a timely manner.
    • Be able to maintain a positive and cooperative attitude daily and under deadlines.
    • Possess above average language and math skills, basic machining knowledge and skills, reasoning abilities.
    • Must have a valid driver license.
    • Must be able to read blueprints (mold repair and fabrication).
    • Must be able to build and fit new molds and spare components as required.
    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
    • High School diploma or equivalent.
    • 2-5 years' experience with injection mold repair as an apprentice or on the job training setting.
    • 2 years additional experience as a journey person machinist or on the job training in a machine shop setting.
    • Experience working at a fast pace, high change environment, with limited supervision.
    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
    • Prolonged periods of standing or sitting.
    • Occasional lifting to 45 pounds.
    • Occasional pulling, pushing, and lifting
