The position of Trademark Paralegal is a crucial legal services position. This position will primarily support the intellectual property practice group, positioning the firm as an innovator in integrating business realities with legal services. The preferred candidate would have relevant work experience of 3-7 years, together with a bachelor's degree. The successful candidate will have demonstrated ability to manage a variety of assignments with attention to detail, meeting quality and timeliness expectations.
Trademark Paralegal
The Trademark Paralegal supports the firm's intellectual property practice by managing domestic and international trademark matters, maintaining docket accuracy, and coordinating with attorneys, clients, and external partners. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to proactively manage multiple deadlines.
Reporting: The Trademark Paralegal will report to the Paralegal Manager.
Location & Hours: This position is fully remote. The working hours for this position are 8:30-5:30 PST.
Salary: The anticipated salary range for this position is $75,000 - $85,000 annually, depending on location and experience, in addition to company benefits.
Responsibilities & Duties:
Trademark Prosecution & Portfolio Management
- Prepare, file, and oversee U.S. and WIPO trademark applications and maintenance filings with attorney oversight.
- Conduct preliminary word and logo clearance searches using USPTO and international databases; prepare detailed search reports.
- Review and summarize office actions for attorney analysis.
- Assist in drafting office action responses, assignments, and other USPTO correspondence.
- Maintain domestic and international trademark portfolios.
- Support attorneys in TTAB proceedings.
Docketing & Record Management
- Monitor statutory and client deadlines to ensure timely filings and compliance.
- Maintain and update docketing software (Alt Legal).
- Generate docket reports and status updates.
- Process and manage incoming file transfers.
- Maintain organized and accurate trademark records within the firm's file management system.
- Manage updates to internal trademark resources and reference materials.
Client & Attorney Support
- Coordinate with attorneys, clients, and external vendors regarding trademark matters.
- Review and submit trademark-related expenses.
- Prepare and distribute client correspondence, including application updates and upcoming due dates.
- Lead internal meetings to review trademark matters and portfolio status with individual attorneys.
General Business Matters (as needed)
- Prepare and send DocuSign envelopes and manage execution of signature processes.
- Proofread, format, and attach exhibits to legal documents with keen attention to detail.
- Remotely notarize documents for clients and transaction parties.
- Assist with other legal assistant and/or paralegal matters as requested.
Required Qualifications:
- 3+ years of trademark paralegal experience (strong TEAS/WIPO experience welcomed at any tenure)
- Experience with USPTO procedures, TEAS filings, and trademark docketing software (Alt Legal preferred)
- Experience with international trademark filings and docketing (including WIPO)
- Strong written communication skills and excellent attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work collaboratively
- Process-oriented and takes initiative with process improvements
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5-7 years of trademark paralegal experience
- Bachelor's degree
- Experience with Secretary of State filings, DocuSign, and/or SEC filings
- Experience with TTAB filings
- Paralegal and/or notary certification
