    Senior Physician & Medical Director

    This Senior Physician position performs both clinical services and administrative duties, serving as the Medical Director and Laboratory Director for the Pinellas County Health Program and Health Care for the Homeless Program and patients.

    Your Specific Responsibilities


    CLINICAL SERVICES:

    • Provide comprehensive health care to adult clients attending Primary Care clinics
    • Order, perform, interpret and/or evaluate the results of diagnostic tests to identify and assess patient's condition
    • Analyze and interpret patient histories, symptoms, physical findings, or diagnostic information to develop appropriate diagnoses
    • Develop treatment plans based on scientific rationale, standards of care, and professional practice guidelines
    • Diagnose and treat acute health care problems such as illnesses, infections, or injuries
    • Prescribe medications based on efficacy, safety, and cost as legally authorized
    • Counsel patients about drug regimens and possible side effects or interactions with other substances
    • Recommend interventions to modify behavior associated with health risks
    • Educate patients about self-management of acute or chronic illnesses, tailoring instructions to patients' individual circumstances
    • Provide referrals for covered specialty care services
    • Provide case management and consultation for staff
    • Coordinate patient care activities with involved staff
    • Instruct on topics such as health education and disease prevention.
    • Participate in quality assurance activities including meetings and peer review.
    • Comply with HEDIS measure, meaningful use standards and selected goals for quality of care.

    ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES:

    • Provide clinical leadership for primary care, pharmacy and specialty care programs including utilization management
    • Oversee medical qualiy assurance and clinical QA/QI program with responsibility for evaluating the appropriateness and quality of patient care
    • Act as supervising physician for advanced practice registered nurses, physician assistants and certified medical assistants, and monitor professional methods and techniques as assigned
    • Supervise assigned staff, initiate regular discussion of performance, and foster staff development through coaching, mentoring, and monitoring performance
    • Evaluate provider performance through on-site observation, review of records and reports, team meetings and individual conferences; develop and monitor corrective action plans as needed
    • Ensure cooperation and coordination between Clinical Services Division, Disease Control, and other divisions regarding clinical issues
    • Provide clinical consultation and technical assistance in ensuring the Health Care for the Homeless Program's requirements as an FQHC and Patient Centered Medical Home are met
    • Ensure compliance with CLIA licensure requirements, laboratory controls, infection control, and biohazard regulations
    • Act as physician liaison between administration and medical staff
    • Act as clinical advisor for providers, residents, and trainees
    • Monitor and evaluate progress toward performance targets and remediate practices that do not meet performance expectations
    • Aid in the development of clinical policies, procedures, and protocols
    • Assist in the recruitment and selection of clinic providers
    • Oversee the orientation and training of new clinic providers
    • Attend internal and community meetings and site visits as required
    • Provide telephone provider on call coverage
    • Provide after-hours, weekend and holiday coverage for DOH-Pinellas as required by the Director
    • Maintain 24-hour availability for emergency duty after regular work hours

    Qualifications:
    Minimum -


    • Clear and active license in the state of Florida to practice as a physician
    Preferred -


    • 5 or more years' experience working as a Physician in a clinic setting
    • Current board certification in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine.
    • Extensive computer skills, including the use of an electronic health record
    • Experience providing services via telehealth
    • Experience working as a physician in a public health setting and/or serving vulnerable populations
    • Experience working as a physician in a clinic and/or practice leadership role
    • Experience serving on quality and/or peer review committees
    • Experience with HEDIS measures and/or UDS clinical measures
