    POSITION SUMMARY:
    The Dembowski lab at Duquesne Universityin the Department of Biological Sciences is hiring a laboratory technician. Thecandidate would be responsible for conducting experiments, general labmaintenance, and ordering. The candidate should be organized, reliable, andable to work independently after some initial training.


    DUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIES:
    General lab maintenance. Conduct labchores and coordinate with work study student. Maintain lab inventories, orderreagents, contact vendors and sales representatives, prepare and maintain stocksolutions, cell lines, and viruses. Maintain equipment and coordinate repairsand vendor maintenance.

    General lab organization.

    Maintain biohazard SOP, maintain chemical inventory and waste removal, organizelab meeting schedule, maintain lab website, attend all lab meetings, coordinateundergraduate student schedules and training, maintain cell line, virus, andbacterial logs.


    Conduct experiments relatedto aims outlined in NIH grants, maintain an organized laboratory notebook,intellectually contribute to ongoing projects, help students with cell linemaintenance while attending conferences and during academic year as needed,generating cell lines and virus strains.

    Help to purchase newequipment and computers for lab.

    Positively represent theDembowski lab at departmental seminars, retreats, receptions, and other events.

    Completes otherduties as assigned.


    REQUIREMENTS:

    Minimum qualifications:
    Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry,biochemistry, or related field and 1-2 years of laboratory experience withmolecular and cell biological techniques.


    Preferredqualifications:
    Bachelor's degree in Molecular Biology,Cell Biology, Virology preferred.

    Experience with genecloning, PCR, western blot analysis, and aseptic techniques is preferred butnot required.


    Alternately, thesuccessful candidate may possess any equivalent combination of experience andtraining, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required toperform the essential job functions.
