Position Summary

A Vascular Interventional Technologist is a Professional that is qualified by professional credentialing and academic and clinical experience to provide diagnostic and interventional patient care services using imaging guidance.

The scope and practice of the Vascular Interventional Technologist includes those procedures, acts and processes permitted by law, for which the individual has received education and clinical experience, has demonstrated competency, and has completed the appropriate ARRT (R) and (CV) or (VI) registry(s) which is the standard of practice in Radiology.

Responsibilities

Performs tasks associated with operation of all Vascular Interventional imaging equipment and other related devices in accordance with manufacturer's guidelines and radiation safety procedures.

Assists Radiologist and Neurosurgeons in performing Interventional, CT and/or Ultrasound guided procedures/interventions using immobilization and protective equipment as necessary.

Follows hospital guidelines and documents or ensure documentation is present for all mandatory Time-out procedures prior to commencement of any interventional procedures.

Charges for all procedures performed, contrast and supplies as appropriate to procedures being performed.

Demonstrates the ability to identify normal and abnormal angiographic anatomy, ultrasound access anatomy and fluoro guided abnormalities.

Loads and operates power injectors for contrast media administration in a sterile environment.

Answers and performs call back procedures in a timely, professional manner.

Maintains acceptable level of Pyxis compliance in regards to inventory items.

Follows patient safety guidelines, organizational policies and procedures, professional standards of performance, best practices and regulatory requirements related to patient care and quality.

Understands and incorporates the policies of HIPAA into daily work habits.

Displays appropriate behavior in regards to giving and receiving constructive feed-back. Works towards departmental goals.

Maintains a professional appearance by adhering to the departmental dress code and maintaining a stocked, clean work environment.

Has an understanding and realizes the importance of JCAHO standards.

Demonstrates proper radiation safety for patient, self and others within procedure.

Documents contrast - type of contrast, amount used, access route, lot number and expiration date.

Documentation of patient information in PACS as needed - patient symptoms, symptoms duration, associated symptoms not included in PACs, relevant surgical and medical history, and explanation for limited study.

Assesses patient's current medical status to evaluate changes that require immediate medical intervention.

Maintains a teamwork approach with other staff members. The technologist demonstrates the ability to accept supervision and ask for assistance when necessary.

Attends departmental staff meetings as scheduled and reads departmental e-mails on a regular basis.

Technologist is responsible for daily use, quality control and proper maintenance of equipment. Notify manager and other staff when there are equipment issues.

Knows downtime procedures and is able to practice when applicable.

Ensures all exam orders are began, changed, and ended in Radiant.

All images are reviewed for quality and then sent to the PACs system for radiologist interpretation; exams are reconciled for interpretation in a timely fashion.

Shares in the transport of patients, when able.

Performs other duties as assigned, i.e., stocking, inventory, etc.

Demonstrates the full range of procedures reflecting appropriate patient care and knowledge for patients ranging in age from neonatal to geriatric.

Accurately explains all procedures and exams to the patient and family members.

Informed consent is obtained after procedure has been explained and prior to procedure being performed, when applicable.

Respects patient privacy by protecting patient's modesty and dignity throughout procedure.

Minimum Requirements

High school or equivalent (or higher)

American Heart Association BLS Certification

Current ARRT (R)

0 years of experience as Interventional Technologist

Preferred Requirements

ARRT (CV) or (VI) registration
