    JOB SUMMARY:


    The Medical Lab Technician performs medical laboratory tests, procedures, experiments, and analyses to provide data for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease.


    JOB DUTIES:

    • The Medical Lab Technician understands and use scientific and technical language and symbols.
    • The Medical Lab Technician recognizes slight differences in shape, color, and texture.
    • The Medical Lab Technician uses eyes, hands and fingers to operate delicate and sensitive equipment.
    • The Medical Lab Technician will work precisely and accurately.
    • Follow technical instructions which may be oral, written, or in the form of charts or drawings.
    • Use measurable and verifiable information for making decisions or judgments.
    • Collects and processes all specimen types.
    • Involved in participating in proficiency testing.
    • Ensures that patient results are reported correctly and seek help when corrective action is needed.
    • Follows all quality control and patient reporting processes.
    • May be involved in training when appropriate.
    • Follows laboratory and/or laboratory supervision direction.
    • Participates in competency assessment.
    • Competent with the LIS and HER systems.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology.
    • Eligible for ASCP or equivalent (must obtain within 12-months of hire) required.
    • Good interpersonal communication skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to follow and adhere to Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital policies, vision, mission and values.
    • Maintains reliable and consistent attendance.
