- Receive product specifications from the supervisor and apply originality to devise changes to methods, materials, and processes.
- Manufacture prototype models of missiles, wings, ship hulls, or full body casts.
- Apply mathematics to calculate loads, fits, sizes, and weights to overcome design flaws.
- Fabricate items to extremely close tolerances.
- Make special jigs and fixtures for irregularly shaped parts and set up trade tools, equipment, and measuring instruments.
- Adapt shop practices for unorthodox processes.
- Establish manufacturing procedures for new compound materials by experimenting with techniques, curing times, temperatures, and pressures.
- Recommend changes to established methods to simplify the manufacturing process.
- Plan and lay out items with hard-to-define reference points.
- Manufacture master patterns and molds with compound curves and intersecting angles.
- Clearance: Must have the ability to pass a government background check.
- Required Knowledge/Experience: 5+ years of experience, extensive knowledge of composite or plastic materials.
- Physical Requirements: Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, and lifting less than 50 pounds.
