    Assistant Director, Student Engagement and Belonging

    Position Summary:

    Student Engagement and Belonging foregrounds inclusion and belonging as foundational elements of a vibrant campus life and student experience. Tasked with promoting student engagement, development of cultural intelligence, and civil discourse, Student Engagement and Belonging is responsible for the following work areas:

    • Identity-based programs
    • Cultural & faith-based programs
    • Student organizations
    • Recreational and student club sports organizations
    • ASW (student government)
    • Student programming
    • Staff-led programming
    • Student center management
    • New Student Orientation

    Reporting directly to the Director of Student Engagement and Belonging, the Assistant Director is responsible for providing leadership, coordination, and advising within the above listed department work areas.

    The Assistant Director supports student success by coordinating and executing a student engagement model specifically for student-led organizations including recreational and student club sports organizations, cultural and faith-based organizations, student government and student programming. The student engagement model foregrounds social identities, interpersonal skills development, and nurtures cultural intelligence development.

    Additionally, the Assistant Director will be responsible for assigned projects in New Student Orientation, student center management, student programs, staff-led programs, and student education promoting diversity and inclusion specific to the student experience.

    Job Duties and Responsibilities:

    Recreational and Student Club Sports Organizations

    1. Develop rules and procedures to ensure safety of students participating in recreational and sports student organizations
    2. Oversee management of recreational and student club sports organizations including collection of forms and waivers, organization of events/tournaments, student fundraising
    3. Actively campaign to establish and promote student participation in recreational and student club sports organizations for the purposes of student engagement, representation of diverse student identities, recruitment to the University
    4. Develop and plan recruitment events such as Mountain Sports at Westminster, Student Sports Organization Awareness Day and Active Students Involvement Fair
    5. Oversee content management for recreational and student club sports organizations
    6. Develop assessment tools to evaluate student experiences, services, and events
    7. Identify cogent safety/risk management concerns specific to recreational and student club sports organizations
    8. Collaboratively investigate and apply appropriate resolutions to complex situations related to conflict between student participants
    9. Develop and maintain supportive relationships with Advisors of recreational and student sports organizations; serve as advisor to organizations when necessary
    10. Provide education and coordination of individualized risk management plans for student organizations

    Student Organization Management

    1. Manage annual student organization registration for returning and new organizations
    2. Create and implement comprehensive training materials and resources (in-person and online) to support registered student organizations in the areas of membership growth, risk management and mitigation, mandatory Clery reporting
    3. Facilitate communication to student organizations regarding engagement opportunities, institutional policies, and processes including Clery reporting, Title IX reporting, and concerning behavior referrals
    4. Provide leadership of student organization programming (fairs, orientation, leadership training)
    5. Assess student learning outcomes of student engagement, particularly through student organization leadership and participation
    6. Regularly meet with student leaders to provide guidance in event planning and coordination including pre-event, event set-up and breakdown, and event execution
    7. Coordinate and implement annual training and ongoing workshops for student organization leaders and advisors: Registered Student Organization (RSO) requirements, student organization leader, risk management, safety, legal implications, conflict resolution, diversity outreach and inclusion, event planning, campus policies
    8. Provide oversight for up-to-date Student Calendar listing all opportunities for student involvement
    9. Provide Student Organization Advisor training including but not limited to: Clery reporting, Title IX reporting, and Registered Student Organization registration

    New Student Orientation

    1. Assist in the planning, coordination, and assessment of the university's comprehensive New Student Orientation for first-year and transfer students, as well as parent and families

    Student Engagement

    1. Coordinate staff-led programs including:
      • Zip Trips, one-day student excursions
      • Student tickets for local sports venues and community events
      • Stress Less Week, exam week wellness events
      • Westminster traditions including Late Night Breakfast, Last Chance Lectures
    2. Assist with the development of intercultural competence training and programming, to include creation of curriculum, outcomes, and assessment process
    3. Coordinate co-curricular educational opportunities and programming for students with the designed learning outcome of intercultural competence and positive interfaith/civil dialogue
    4. Promote an inclusive Westminster through demonstration of the commitments articulated in the Westminster University Diversity Statement. Create and foreground student developmental activities that increase understanding and awareness of issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion for the individual and collective
    5. Develop programs responsive to student needs
    6. Assist in the planning and organization of annual Purple & Gold Student Leadership Awards and reception
    7. Assist with programs and projects as assigned by the Director

    Institutional Responsibilities

    1. Assist with Commencement and Convocation activities as assigned
    2. Represent University in relevant local and national professional organizations
    3. Assist Enrollment Management with select recruitment activities
    4. Serve on institutional committees as assigned
    5. Support the director in the oversight of the Shaw Student Center
    6. Serve as a Campus Security Authority and Mandatory Reporter
    7. Other duties as assigned

    Organizational Responsibilities:

    1. Promote an Inclusive Westminster through demonstration of the commitments included in the Westminster University Diversity Statement.
    2. Participate in developmental activities to increase understanding and awareness of issues related to diversity, equity and inclusion both individually and as related to my field of work, profession or discipline.

    Qualifications:

    Minimum Qualifications

    • 1 - 3 years of experience in higher education administration or related organizational experiences
    • Graduate degree from an accredited college or university in Student Affairs, Equity & Diversity, Education, Social Work, Recreation
    • Demonstrated experience working with college students, event planning, advising
    • Demonstrated project management experience
    • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
    • A commitment to enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion on campus
    • Cultural competence, cultural humility, and experience working with students from various identities and lived experiences
    • Broad knowledge of issues and trends impacting undergraduate students in higher education

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Demonstrated experience developing and motivating students pursuing athletic and recreational experiences
    • Previous experience supporting and/or managing Registered Student Organizations
    • Previous experience with orientation programs
    • Multilingual
    • Experience directly supporting international, BIPOC, first-generation and low-income, LGBTQIA+ students, students with disabilities, etc.
    • Intergroup Dialogue facilitation experience or experience facilitating conversations across difference
