    DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
    Works on field crew performing boundary, topographic and other land surveys of City properties and rights-of-way. Applicant should be able to understand construction plans, maps & property descriptions. An understanding of sources of basic surveying errors and how to avoid them is also expected.

    The Senior Survey Instrument Technician duties will include but are not limited to:


    • Proper operation, handling and maintenance of survey equipment (i.e. GPS receivers, Robotic and Conventional Instrumentation, levels etc.)
    • In field survey record books. Assists with traffic control around survey area; clears brush from survey area; helps load truck with supplies.
    • Performing basic mathematical calculations and field checking of data.
    • Using a pick, shovel metal locator and other hand tools to search for and locate survey monuments.
    • Monitors supply levels and maintains equipment.
    • Ensuring the Survey vehicle is prepared for the day's activities.
    • Keeping survey vehicles, tools & supplies clean and organized.
    • Downloading and uploading data everyday under the Party Chief's directions.
    • Communicating effectively with co-workers, supervisors, and clients.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:
    There are routine exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture and air pollution.

    The position may involve periodic exposure to chemical substances and physical trauma of a minor nature such as cuts, bruises and minor burns.

    The position routinely requires lifting of moderately heavy items, such as typewriters or records boxes (up to 40 pounds) and/or very long periods of walking on rough surfaces on a routine basis.

    This is a Department of Public Works position at the Tier III Level.


    EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS


    Specialized training in principles, procedures, practices, routines or techniques in a specific area or trade which might normally be acquired through up to 18 months of education or training beyond the high school level.

    Vocational competence in the operation of mechanical or electronic equipment may be required.


    EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS


    One year of experience in the operation, repair, calibration and installation of technical instruments and equipment in the area of work is required.


    LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
    None.

    Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6SELECTION/
