    to enhance the eating and drinking experience, nourishing the people and communities we serve As Principal Mechatronics-Automation Technologist/Engineer, you will be responsible for leading technology development and application of the complex automation systems that are embedded within our commercial foodservice appliances.

    In this individual contributor role, you'll work on a variety of exciting mechanical automation design challenges.

    Your subject-matter expertise and innovative thinking will help ensure our equipment offers cutting-edge and reliable technology that enhances the customer experience and our market advantage.

    This role is subject to our hybrid work model:
    we collaborate in the office on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. The rest of the week, you have flexibility to work wherever it suits you best.

    What You'll Do Partner closely with product management, marketing, engineering, and operations to generate technology platforms and product modules that are based on tactically selected innovative technologies in the commercial appliances spaceServe as MFT's subject-matter expert in automation systems architecture and design; provide effective solutions and generate original concepts to a range of customer and market needsMaintain strong understanding of industry trends, competitive landscape, design partners, and customer portfoliosConduct technology research in new/adjacent markets, and develop automation technology platforms and roadmapsPropose and lead technology projects with an emphasis on integration of automation technologiesPerform automation system design, development, testing, and validation of technology and innovation concepts/solutionsReview, select, design, and develop validation test plans for complex mechanical automation systems applicable to manufacturing, beverage/dispensing, cleaning, cooking, refrigeration, frozen, or food handling/storage/processing productsDesign selection, specification, and application of critical components; Identify Critical to Quality (CTQs) features through the DFMEA process and reflect them in the component selection process.

    Support the drafting of plans for reliability, design validation, performance evaluation, component selection, and customer specific requestsPerform simulations, and CAD design and detail drawing creation in SolidWorks, Creo, etc.

    Integrate sensors, motors, stepper drives, controls, data logging, basic controller programming with strong communication to electrical engineering hardware/software teams.

    Serve as a coach and mentor to other engineers by participating in architecture, design, and projects reviews, and technology learning sessionsWho You AreSubject-Matter Enthusiast:

    Takes prompt, proactive action to accomplish work goals with limited oversightSkills/Experience We're Looking For Demonstrated experience with automation and control system design, product development and product launchesExperience with technology research, idea generation, and technology platforming strategiesSystems thinker with holistic approach to analysis that focuses on how a system's individual parts interact and how the systems deliver expected resultsInnovative mindset to tactically select appropriate technologies, systems, tools and apply them to foodservice products based in the Industry 4.0 technologies (IoT, smart equipment, AI, autonomous systems, etc.)Mechanical aptitude, hands-on assembly, modification, tinkering and optimizing electromechanical systems.

    Understanding of materials selection, corrosion mechanisms, and life expectancy of complex systems and failure modesMathematical modeling, statistical analysis, and advanced test creation skillsExperience with SolidWorks and Creo CAD systemsFamiliarity with agency requirements and regulating bodies, such as UL, NSF, DOE, IEC, ETL, ISO, EN, etc.
