    Chief Operating & Finance Officer (COO/FO)

    The Roman Catholic Diocese of Toledo in America serves the Catholic community of northwestern Ohio and its various parishes, schools, and ecclesiastical organizations.

    The COO/FO reports directly to the Board of the Diocese of Toledo Management Corporation and the Bishop of Toledo.


    The COO/FO is responsible for the administration of the temporal goods of the Diocese and their strategic use for the benefit of the Diocese, its parishes, schools, ecclesiastical organizations, employees, and all the Catholic faithful.


    This includes accounting; financing; budgeting; tax; treasury and cash management; internal and external audits; debt placement and negotiation; planning and analysis; insurance and risk management, human resources and benefits management, property, legal, strategic planning, and mission advancement (development).


    This executive is responsible for ensuring that all financial systems and controls reflect best practices, as well as implementing the necessary operational and organizational processes that will enable continuous improvement and ongoing growth opportunities for the Diocese.


    The COO/FO serves on Diocesan committees and/or Boards of related organizations in order to promote financial and operational guidance and oversight to the respective Boards or Committees, to serve as the Bishop's designee for such entities and to promote adherence to Diocesan temporal goods protocols and Canon Law.

    The position is directly responsible for the fiscal operations of the Diocese according to the norms of the signed service agreement.


    In addition, this position provides financial oversight for the fiscal operations of the various ecclesiastical organizations (Trusts) in collaboration with their respective Boards and Trustees.

    The COO/FO is assisted in his/her duties by four directors who directly report to this position.

    They include the Controller; General Counsel/Director of Risk Management; Director of Human Resources; and Mission Advancement Officer.


    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
    The COO/FO must be a Catholic, in communion with the Church. Accordingly, this person must be living out the five precepts of the Church (Catechism of the Catholic Church §§

    Thorough knowledge of accounting principles, practices and practical applications of accounting systems.

    Proven experience in the preparation of financial reports and analysis of operations.
    Undergraduate degree in accounting, business administration, finance or economics; CPA certification required; MBA strongly preferred.

    Minimum of ten years of experience managing a professional financial and accounting staff as well as administrative and IT functions; experience may have been gained as a CFO, Controller or Director of Finance with a public or private corporation, or with a not-for-profit institution.

    Career progression from public accounting and operational leadership experience are desirable.

    Must be forward thinking and have the creative vision to recognize strategic opportunities and have the skills to employ and develop them from existing and new resources for the Diocese.
