Job Description
Purpose: To provide safe and efficient transportation so that students may enjoy the fullest possible advantage from the district's curricular and extracurricular programs.
 
Responsible to: Transportation Supervisor/Mechanic/Maintenance, Secretary to Transportation/Director of Buildings and Grounds, and Director of Buildings and Grounds    
 
Payment range: $ $29.15/hr.
 
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Possesses current operator's license;
2. Completes required First Aid and Defensive Driving courses;
3. Demonstrates aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities;
4. Attends scheduled meetings and conferences;
5. Passes physical examination.
6. Demonstrates literacy in reading, writing, and following directions/instructions.
7. Has such other qualifications as the district may find appropriate and acceptable.
8. Health and Inoculation Certificate on file.
Essential Functions:
 
1. Obeys all traffic laws.
2. Observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.
3. Maintains discipline when students are on bus.
4. Reports undisciplined students to the proper authority.
5. Keeps interior of assigned bus clean.
6. Observes assigned schedule.
7. Checks bus for mechanical defects before each operation.
8. Notifies the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or delays.
9. Discharges students only at authorized stops.
10. Exercises responsible leadership when on out-of-district school trips.
11. Transports only authorized students.
12. Reports any accidents and completes required reports.
13. Prepares list of students on assigned route who are eligible to be transported.
14. Keeps accurate record of students being transported.
15. Performs other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
 
1. Requires prolonged sitting or standing, and use of equipment including repetitive motions and computer eye fatigue.
2. Ability to handle a fast-paced, intense work environment.
3. Must occasionally work in noisy and crowded environments, with numerous interruptions.
