JOB OVERVIEW

Xcel Engineering is looking for a Senior Cloud Engineer to join the Digital Platform Services Group at a leading research lab in East, TN.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Collaborate with the engineering team to implement efficient cloud-based solutions for the company.
Establish best practices and strategies for application deployment and infrastructure maintenance.
Provide guidance and mentorship to development teams to enhance cloud competencies.
Maintain application performance, uptime, and scalability with a focus on code quality and design.
Manage cloud environments while adhering to company and Federal security protocols.

Cloud Operations Management:

Offer technical expertise in cloud service categories like PaaS, SaaS, and IaaS.
Design, build, document, and automate technical processes and operations using VMWare, vCenter, vSphere, and Azure Virtual Machine.
Implement automation for configuration and deployment improvements, enhancing the functionality and manageability of our cloud services.
Develop and test disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
Supervise and maintain multiple environments based on client needs.

Continuous Improvement:

Introduce enhanced software and systems engineering practices for an optimized IT ecosystem.

Communications:

Demonstrate strong interpersonal, written, and presentation skills, fostering positive relationships with internal and external partners.
Resolve incidents, identify root causes, and implement preventive measures.
Educate teams on new cloud initiatives and provide necessary training.
Utilize problem-solving skills to address issues proactively and maintain business productivity.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in business, computer science, engineering, or related field with 8+ years of experience in cloud computing technologies, or equivalent experience.
Proficiency in Azure Cloud services.
Experience with cloud infrastructure and various virtualization technologies.
Familiarity with scripting languages like Terraform, PowerShell, and Python.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Advanced degree in related field with 7+ years of cloud computing experience.
Azure certifications.
Expertise in areas like database architecture, business intelligence, and big data.
Understanding of authentication, authorization, and access management.
Knowledge of deploying solutions in a hybrid cloud environment.
Familiarity with Azure Open AI.
Ability to work autonomously or collaboratively on complex issues.
Effective communication skills for conveying ideas clearly.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Office-based role requiring prolonged computer use.
Potential for extended desk work.
Fast-paced environment with occasional high-pressure deadlines.
