    *Manufacturing Engineer

    *Location: Irvine, CA

    *Shift: Monday – Friday, 7:00am – 3:00pm or 8:00am – 4:00pm

    *Salary: $70,000 - $97,000 (DOE)

    *Position Summary:


    The Manufacturing Engineer, under limited supervision is responsible for applying engineering principles to drive continuous improvement in the manufacturing processes, utilizing knowledge of product design, materials, components, fabrication processes, tooling, production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, testing, facilities, quality control standards Six Sigma and Lean tools.

    *Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
    • Performs contract review of the customer's requirements from Purchase Order (P.O.), specifications, and drawings.
    • Prepares routers (manufacturing plans) and Op sheets for the production processes.
    • Prepares work instructions/procedures for the production processes.
    • Creates purchase requisitions for external suppliers to process production parts per customer's requirements (from specifications and drawings).
    • Works with suppliers to qualify special processes (heat treat, corrosion protective coating, welding, machining, etc.)
    • Designs and fabricate production tooling to support manufacturing processes. Knowledgeable in CAD software (Solidworks) to create tool drawings and Op sheets.
    • Works with customers and suppliers (internal and external) to support program's needs.
    • Performs root cause investigations to support production technical issues.
    • Knowledgeable with 5 why's and fishbone diagram.
    • Supports production to ensure attainment of business goals, including addressing quality issues, working with maintenance to address equipment failures, working directly with manufacturing personnel to ensure a smooth running operation.
    • Identifies, analyzes and delivers on continuous improvement opportunities. Justifies then requests required resources to complete initiatives. Manages projects to successful completion. Uses Six Sigma and Lean tools to aid in this effort.
    • Analyzes product or equipment specifications and performance requirements to determine designs which can be produced by existing manufacturing or processing facilities and methods. Documents standard work with work instructions.
    • Manages specification, selection and execution of major capital and tooling acquisitions in order to drive technology improvements that positively impact Safety, Quality, Delivery, Productivity and Inventory.
    • Coordinates manufacturing or building of prototype product or system.
    • Ensures all work is in compliance with environmental, health and safety standards, industry specifications, customer requirements, company standards and related specifications.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
    *Required Skills:
    • Six Sigma Green or Black belt highly preferred but not required
    • Must possess good communication skills and demonstrate the ability to interface effectively with all levels of operations and management
    • Knowledge and understanding of continuous improvement process and practical tool application
    • Strong Analytical skills
    • Proficient with standard office computer software (E-Mail, Word, Excel, Powerpoint).
    • Exposure to Lean and Six Sigma Tools, at minimum a willingness to learn and apply the tools.
    • Solidworks or similar 3-D design experience preferred.
    • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
    • Basic Measurement skills (micrometer, calipers, height gages, etc.)
    • Metal working, CNC, and/or Electron Beam Welding experience preferred.
    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret industry specifications, customer specifications, general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
    • Good understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) and how it relates to the design, manufacturing, inspection, and assembly processes or procedures.
    • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
    • Effective team member; well respected, results oriented, and cooperative. Ability to lead a team to successful completion of a project
    • Drive to identify opportunities to improve, take ownership and pursue them.

    *Experience & Education
    • Bachelor's Degree required (Mechanical or Manufacturing preferred, will consider other Engineering disciplines as well)
    • Minimum of 1-3 years' experience in a manufacturing environment
