    Job Description


    Student Business Services seeks an Accountant Sr. to provide accounting oversight for Treasury Services.
    The Accountant Sr. will perform professional accounting functions including review of monthly financial reports, preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, compilations of specialized financial reports, interpretation of financial data and account analysis. Interacts with University departments in regard to processing of financial transactions to ensure compliance with university policy and procedures.

    Essential Duties

    • Prepares reports, statements, and bank reconciliations utilizing a variety of software.
    • Provides specialized or general calculations and analysis support in various accounting functions.
    • Recommends alternatives to management when accounting data indicates trends or situations requiring action to be taken beyond scope of responsibilities.
    • Establishes or revises procedures or operating policies of assigned functions and participates in development and implementation of new or revised accounting systems.
    • Reviews accounting and reporting systems, procedures, and complete assignments of other staff to ensure compliance with university or outside agency regulations.
    • Develops and prepares reporting based on query results from University Data Warehouse tables.
    • Reviews control accounts and records to ensure accuracy, proper documentation, and compliance with all pertinent procedures and regulations.
    • Prepares complex journal entries and records composite entries.
    • Develops a strong understanding of the university accounting system to research discrepancies and perform complex reconciliations.
    • Adjusts to changing needs of university operations or need to provide specialized or individualized reports.
    • Researches, analyzes, and uses independent judgment in a variety of daily and non-routine decisions affecting assigned function.
    • Researches and evaluates new or changed accounting principles and practices.

    Minimum Qualifications


    Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field AND two (2) years of professional accounting experience; OR, six (6) years professional accounting experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.


    Desired Qualifications

    • Experience in preparing detailed and complex reports utilizing data warehouse/storage and retrieval systems such as MS access or other query software.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of Peoplesoft or other similar student account information systems with specific query and reporting experience.
    • Experience with Workday Accounting system or other on-line accounting systems.
    • Evidence of effective communication skills.
    • Experience in a university setting and/or familiarity with federal regulations pertaining to student information and tuition reporting requirements.
    • Experience in a high-volume customer service environment.

    Working Environment

    • Work in an office setting and use office equipment (i.e. computers, printers, copiers, calculators, telephones).
    • Sit or stand for extended periods of time, travel moderate distances to perform work.
    • Communicate to perform essential duties.
    • Read-interpret written and oral instructions/directions.
    • May require lifting of items weighing up to 25 lbs.

    Student Business Services provides accounting functions in the areas of: Student Accounts, Cashiering Services, Collections, Tuition Assessment, Third Party Billing and Treasury Management.
