    Job Title: Circulating Nurse

    Job Summary:

    The circulating nurse, a registered nurse, is responsible for coordinating and managing patient care during surgical procedures. They ensure patient safety and comfort, maintain a sterile environment in the operating room, and support the surgical team in various capacities.


    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Patient Preparation:
      • Verify patient identity, surgical site, and procedure.
      • Educate patients and families about the surgical process and address their inquiries.
      • Ensure patient safety and comfort pre and post-surgery.
    • Operating Room Setup:
      • Prepare and organize the operating room with sterile instruments, equipment, and supplies.
      • Check the functionality of surgical equipment and devices.
      • Maintain aseptic technique during the procedure.
    • Assistance During Surgery:
      • Support the surgical team by providing necessary instruments, sutures, and supplies.
      • Keep an accurate count of surgical instruments and supplies to prevent retention of foreign bodies.
      • Monitor patient's vital signs and response to anesthesia.
      • Document all procedure aspects, including surgeon's instructions and any complications.
    • Patient Advocacy:
      • Advocate for patient's needs and safety during surgery.
      • Ensure the surgical team adheres to proper infection control protocols.
      • Address any concerns or issues arising during the procedure.
    • Communication:
      • Maintain clear communication with the surgical team, including surgeons, anesthesiologists, and scrub nurses.
      • Convey relevant patient condition information to the recovery room staff.
    • Post-Operative Care:
      • Assist in transferring the patient to the recovery room.
      • Offer post-operative care instructions to the patient and family.
      • Transition care responsibilities to the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) or recovery room nursing staff.


      Qualifications:

      • Current and valid registered nurse (RN) license.
      • BLS (Basic Life Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification.
      • Previous experience in perioperative nursing is preferred.
      • Knowledge of surgical procedures, aseptic technique, and infection control.
      • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
      • Attention to detail and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.
