- Assists permit applicants and others by phone, email and in person.
- Assigned Front Counter Customer Service shifts on a weekly basis and coordinates with other EH Technicians regarding all Customer Service activities.
- Performs preliminary application review for completeness and accuracy and determines appropriate fees.
- Reviews Consumer Protection plan reviews, application submittals for new or existing restaurants or other permitted facilities and special event applications.
- Reviews land use plan reviews/proposals for basic conformance with the Local Area Management Plan (LAMP) and the General Plan and the zoning ordinance.
- Assists with Building Plan Check reviews and provides responses to the applicant via Accela.
- Assists the Consumer Protection Division within EH with outreach to permitted facilities.
- Creates service requests, invoices, and other pertinent facility actions via the Hedgerow database.
- Assists with division field inspections, as needed.
- May respond to environmental health related complaints involving a wide variety of facilities, establishments, and nuisances by inspecting and recommending remedial action. In addition, may assist with the Vector Program field surveillance and mosquito fish maintenance.
- Basic principles and functions of the EH Department and other Departments within the Community Development Agency.
- Nomenclature, symbols, methods, and techniques used in mapping and drafting which are specific to EH plan review submittals.
- Techniques for gathering, compiling, and presenting data in visual form.
- Local land use ordinance, zoning, and agency policies.
- Basic principles of chemistry, biology, and environmental geology.

The Nevada County Environmental Health Department is looking for a highly motivated and organized individual to join our dynamic and collaborative Team The incumbent will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to explain sophisticated State and Local ordinances and regulations in a clear and easy to understand format for all customers. This position will review all consumer protection, land use and hazardous materials plan review projects, applications, and documentation submittals. In addition, this position will approve permits and support and participate in project assignments. Knowledge of County land use LAMP and Codes, zoning, and Environmental Health ordinances as well as State CalCode and State laws are highly sought-after attributes. In addition to reviewing project submittals, this individual would assist customers in resolving project-related questions and challenges and process data for State of California requirements.
