    The Mental Health Clinical Center (MHCC) within the VA Maryland Health Care System (VAMHCS) is seeking a Psychologist in the Serious Mental Illness Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (SMI-PRRTP) at the Perry Point Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

    The Perry Point VA Medical Center is located on a beautiful campus of approximately 400 acres on the banks of the Susquehanna River and the Chesapeake Bay where you can enjoy a variety of recreational activities, including fishing, swimming, bicycling, and jogging. There is ample, free parking on the grounds of the medical center, which is conveniently located just off of I-95 and U.S. Route 40.

    Duties:

    Duties include, but are not limited to, a full range of psychodiagnostic services including assessment, and using the most appropriate, evidence-based psychotherapeutic techniques in providing quality care in the delivery of a full range of psychological and multidisciplinary services in the SMI-PRRTP, primarily at the Perry Point facility and at other VAMHCS locations as required.

  • Participate in the Recovery Center and in telemental health services or similar activities to Veterans across VAMHCS facilities.
  • Provides evidence-based therapies to Veterans with a range of mental health conditions, including but not limited to Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Problem-Solving Therapy (PST), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). For all clinical duties the incumbent works in the SMI-PRRTP delivering specialty services for the treatment of a range of mental health conditions.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary team dispositions of patients within the SMI-PRRTP, and provides consultation services to medical center staff on a wide variety of patient care issues, particularly related to identifying mental health concerns commonly experienced by homeless Veterans from all eras of service.
  • Provides ethical individual and group mental health services to eligible combat and non-combat Veterans. General duties also include, but are not limited to, assessment and referral services; design and preparation of diagnostic assessments, providing entry-level services for Veterans of all service eras, formulating and providing individual and group treatments, preparing initial and updated treatment plans, and planning for follow-up care after completion of treatment. When properly credentialed and licensed, the incumbent will operate independently in all areas, consulting with peers and supervisors when warranted.
  • Provides ongoing education to staff on the development and implementation of treatment plans to ensure quality care for patients and to ensure compliance with all internal policies as well as Joint Commission and CARF requirements.
  • Travel as needed between VAMHCS sites to provide psychological services.
  • Work some early morning/evening hours and/or work variable tours of duty to possibly include weekend treatment delivery to accommodate needs of Veterans.
  • As needed in the Residential Screening Clinic and will perform assessment of and disposition to Veterans who present for assessment at the walk-in assessment clinic, or other intake portals which are points of entry to mental health services.
  • Delivers Employee Assistance Program (EAP) services to VAMHCS employees.
  • Provide clinical supervision to trainees (e.g., graduate and post-graduate students, Externs, Interns, and/or Post-doctoral Fellows, and similar trainee positions). Will review and rate externship, internship, and/or postdoctoral fellow applicants and interviews prospective applicants. May serve on the internship/fellowship didactics committee and participate in didactic training.
  • Serves as a consultant to other medical center staff and trainees and assists in their formulation of the psychological characteristics and appropriate treatment expectations regarding patients.Qualifications:

    1. Knowledge of, and ability to apply, professional psychological treatments to the full range of patient populations.

    2. Ability to provide professional advice and consultation in areas related to professional psychology and behavioral health.

    3. Knowledge of clinical research literature.
