General Description and Classification StandardsPlans, organizes and directs activities associated with the design, preventative maintenance plans, and modifications or improvements of municipal buildings and grounds.
Duties may include, but are not limited to designing, reviewing, analyzing, understanding and interpreting plans and specifications, construction drawings and schematic diagrams, coordinating, managing and directing assigned projects.
Supervision ReceivedWorks under very general supervision. Depending on organization structure, may work independently with responsibility for an assigned function or program.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. May perform other duties as assigned.
Conducts preliminary and final plan review of construction documents for commercial work.
Works with the architect, engineers and contractors and the general public to answer and/or clarify code compliance or project approval workflow checklist items.
Conducts studies, develops long-range plans and prepares comprehensive reports related to rehabilitation and replacement of facilities.
Coordinates, monitors, reviews, and approves all municipal facility studies, investigations, plans and construction projects as a Registered Architecture or Registered Professional Engineer.
Plans, implements, and/or oversees consultant studies, investigations and construction projects, and complex design activities including contract bid documents, for new structures, major repairs, modifications and upgrades of municipal facilities.
Ensures that assigned projects meet all applicable codes, standards, ordinances and laws.
Reviews and approves plans and projects; provides advisement and assistance to technicians, inspectors, and designers regarding municipal facilities design plans and their review.
Responsible for budget development and utilization within Municipal facilities Section.
Meets and confers with contractors, public officials, neighborhood groups, outside agencies, advisory committees, citizens, and civic organizations regarding municipal facilities issues and assigned projects.
Reads and interprets a variety of information such as plans and specifications, other construction documents, technical manuals, trade journals, and testing information.
Selects from multiple standardized procedures, written instructions, and methods to accomplish assigned tasks.
Leadership Provided
Routinely provides work group leadership, guidance, and/or training to Architectural Designers or less experienced staff.
