- Associates degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology degree or 60 credit hours obtained from an accredited institution that must include 24 credit hours in Medical Technology or Science Courses which include 6 credit hours of Biology & 6 credit hours of Chemistry.
- Must be able to work on occasional weekends and rotate on-call duties.
- One (1) year experience as a grossing tech or assistant.
- Professional License/Certification (Certified by ASCP or equivalent).
- Experience in a hospital setting.
- EPIC training.
- Assesses specimen and order acceptability according to departmental policies and procedures.
- Alerts appropriate residents and pathologists for special protocols.
- Accession all specimen received indicated for Surgical Pathology.
- Prints appropriate colored and types of cassettes for all specimen.
- Label specimen correctly and adding formalin to all specimen that do not require special attention.
- Responsible for dictating gross descriptions of GI, GYN, prostate, kidney, liver, bone marrows, as well as surgical devices.
- Inks and cuts breasts in accordance to appropriate breast protocols.
- Performs and assists with specimen and frozen section preparation.
- Receives and releases bodies in the morgue to ARORA, Coroner's office, Crime lab, and funeral homes, assuring all paperwork is complete and correct.
- Responsible for receiving after-hour specimen in the Clinical Lab refrigerator.
- Daily cleaning of cryostats with appropriate reagents.
- Maintaining a positive attitude and correctly performs all duties during strenuous work hours.
- Performs preventative maintenance on machines and equipment.
- Performs troubleshooting on laboratory equipment.
- Restocks supplies and maintains a safe and organized work environment.
- Trains new employees and residents as needed.
- Store grossed specimen in storage room according to date and dumping specimen after 30 days.
- Ensures all cassettes are added to Histology processors with appropriate date and end time.
- Performs computer functions as required.
- Recording refrigerator, freezer, ambient, cryostat, and bone decalcification station temperatures in appropriate log book.
- Assists with UAMS/ACH post-mortem examinations by entering data into epic a needed, preparing patient for funeral home and ensuring morgue is cleaned once exam is complete.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
