    Directs all system safety efforts within an AFRL/RQMainly supporting AFRL/RQV and AFRL/RQQ. Uses engineering principles, methods, and techniques to establish R&D program system safety requirements. Plans and executes a comprehensive safety and health program that entails the development and interpretation of new concepts, regulations, and standards to identify and control hazardous conditions of a high risk nature and to enforce compliance with numerous stringent safety requirements that are difficult to evaluate. Serves as Safety Review Board (SRB) Chair on flight and ground test activity conducted within the Directorate under both in-house and contract efforts, on and off-base. Requires ability to identify hazards and assess risk for flight and ground tests in accordance with requirements identified in AFRL and AFMC Supplements to AFI and using principles specified under MIL-STD-882E. Serves as a staff advisor to the Director on all matters relating to safety and health. Requires a familiarity with applicable occupational Safety and Health Act standards/requirements and impacts in a laboratory environment.

    Required Qualifications
    • United States Citizenship
    • Education: Professional engineering degree from an accredited school of engineering, or combination of education and experience, or evidence of having successfully passed the Engineer in Training examination, or successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences
    • Knowledge of laws, regulations, policies, and practices governing ground, flight, system, and occupational safety programs
    • Extensive knowledge of government and industry concepts principles and practices relevant to the management and implementation of safety programs
    • Communicate and coordinate high level initiatives through the use of exceptional oral and written skills
    • Create a variety of products for high level review, to include staff summary packages, briefings, and supporting documents
    Desired Qualifications
    • Extensive knowledge and experience in reviewing flight test plans for research activities (both manned and unmanned). The ability to identify and assess hazards related to flight testing.
