Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Part-Time Veterinary Technician with surgical experience to join our compassionate veterinary team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in animal care and surgical assistance, demonstrating proficiency in veterinary procedures, animal handling, and clinical support. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to high-quality pet healthcare in a dynamic environment, ensuring the well-being of our animal patients while supporting the veterinary staff with technical expertise and compassionate care.

Duties

  • Assist veterinarians during surgical procedures by preparing instruments, maintaining aseptic technique, and monitoring anesthesia levels.
  • Provide comprehensive animal husbandry, including feeding, grooming, and maintaining cleanliness in kennels and treatment areas.
  • Perform laboratory tests such as blood work, urinalysis, and other diagnostic procedures to aid in accurate diagnosis.
  • Handle animals safely using proper restraint techniques, ensuring minimal stress and discomfort for pets during examinations or treatments.
  • Maintain detailed medical records, documenting procedures, observations, and patient progress accurately and efficiently.
  • Support pet care activities including administering medications, performing animal catheterization, and assisting with pet grooming as needed.
  • Operate diagnostic equipment such as X-ray machines and assist with radiographic procedures to support diagnostic imaging requirements.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth clinic operations, uphold safety standards, and deliver exceptional pet care.

Skills

  • Proven veterinary technician experience with surgical support skills and familiarity with aseptic techniques.
  • Knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal anatomy, physiology, and critical care practices.
  • Experience with laboratory testing procedures and diagnostic imaging including X-ray technology.
  • Strong animal handling skills across various species such as dogs, cats, and equines; dog training and pet grooming experience are advantageous.
  • Ability to perform animal restraint effectively while minimizing stress for the patient.
  • Excellent communication skills for interacting with pet owners, team members, and vendors.
  • Familiarity with dental terminology for assisting in dental procedures; knowledge of pet grooming is a plus.
