- Simulate a variety of failure modes that the launch vehicle may experience and the impact they have on achieving a safe orbit and meeting mission requirements.
- Author flight plans and generate data required by AFSPCMAN vol. II to obtain launch licenses for each mission flown.
- Continually improve the processes of trajectory analysis and data generation through programmed automation to streamline the production of all flight plan products.
- Assist engineering teams in solving a variety problems that may arise in order to ensure a safe, successful, and awesome launch.
- Bachelor of Science in physics or an engineering discipline.
- 1 year of experience with orbital mechanics, aerodynamics, dynamics, and physics.
- 1 year experience working with MATLAB and Python.
- Strong background in linear algebra and calculus.
- Strong communication skills and comfort interfacing with contacts outside of SpaceX.
- Ability to solve complex problems on time as an individual or leader of a team.
- Familiarity with launch vehicle architectures and fundamental systems (avionics, propulsion, structures, guidance, navigation and control, etc.).
- Strong background in statistical analysis and understanding of how it can be applied to flight trajectories.
- Familiarity with methods of launch vehicle trajectory simulation and optimization, especially in the use of POST.
- Comfortable working in a variety of coordinate reference frames commonly used in aerospace.
- Must be able to lift 25 lbs unassisted, bend, stretch, stand for extended periods of time, climb stairs, reach, twist, sit, walk, and/or run.
- Must be willing to work extended hours and on weekends as needed.
- To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State. TRAJECTORY ANALYSIS ENGINEER
SpaceX has a strong belief that launch vehicles and spacecraft can be both cost effective and highly reliable. Our Launch Chief Engineer's team is key to our pursuit of that goal and more specifically also our pursuit of manned spaceflight. The Trajectory Analysis Engineer will analyze trajectory profiles designed by SpaceX's Guidance, Navigation, and Control team for risk to the launch site and general public.
