    Position Summary:

    This position will collaborate with management to develop and implement strategic business initiatives. Responsibilities will include serving as a trusted advisor to department leaders on employee relations, cultural development, compensation, benefits, performance management, policy development and risk management. In addition, the Human Resource Director will need to be a leader of change, and evaluate, plan, develop, and build the organization's human capital, functions, and capabilities. This position will be an integral part of the leadership team and a liaison, culture champion, change agent, and problem-solver. The Human Resources Director will manage the Human Resources Department including recruitment and talent management, performance management, onboarding, employee relations, compensation and benefits administration. This position will supervise all Human Resource staff at all Steffes locations.

    Key Responsibilities

    1. High personal standards with a proven track record of integrity, business ethics, and professionalism. Maintains confidentiality concerning personnel actions, legal actions, terminations, and organizational plans.
    2. Partner with the management review team to formulate, develop, implement and evaluate a HR and Talent Management Strategy to achieve the organization's vision, mission and goals.
    3. Provide a human resources perspective to strategic and operational planning and implementation. Willingness and interest in working at both hands-on tactical and strategic levels.
    4. Provides guidance to leadership on change management, organization assessment and how to leverage HR tools and programs to create an effective organization.
    5. Oversees HR guidance to employees and managers with regard to recruiting, performance management, compensation, benefits, employee relation issues, company policies, etc.
    6. Implement and monitor all HR systems and procedures across the organization.
    7. Provide expert counsel to the organization's management regarding human resources issues and their business implications directly or through coordination of outside resources.
    8. Work to assure that the company adheres to best practices in its Human Resources procedures including monitoring, fostering, and working to maintain a culture of mutual respect in the workplace; ensure that there is a strong positive perception of the company and Human Resources as a business partner and key resource.
    9. Oversees Talent Acquisition and Management efforts, driving recruitment performance and metrics that support business needs.
    10. Assists in the development/implementation of rewards programs to engage and retain talent.
    11. Utilizes functional expertise to ensure consistent and fair resolution of complex employee relations, including utilization of specialist resources and legal counsel as necessary.
    12. Ensures timely completion of all compliance and reporting requirements.
    13. Design and recommend a strategy for organizational culture.
    14. Maintains high-level knowledge and understanding of regulations, industry trends, current practices, new developments, and applicable laws regarding human resources.
    15. Provide direction and the development of HR policies/procedures, recruiting processes, and placement practices/procedures.
    16. Maintain complete employment and personnel statistics and prepare reports, as requested.
    17. Supervise and develop the Human Resources staff. Ability to assert own ideas and to persuade others, gain support and commitment, and lead the human resources group.
    18. Exercise general supervision over all company benefit programs; participate in the selection of and negotiation with insurance carriers and brokers. Coordinate the administration of employee health, recreation, and benefit programs, including company wellness program, health, life and dental insurance programs, Section 125 programs, leave time administration, 401(k) plan, and service awards.
    19. Identify and build consensus with leadership to develop and implement personnel policies and procedures, and provide interpretation of policies for managers, supervisors, and employees.
    20. Coordinate the administration of employee training programs which may include conducting a survey of employee needs, researching programs, developing and designing programs to meet company needs, and coordinating the presentation of the information.
    21. Conduct research into personnel programs, activities, and benefits, and recommend changes or innovations where desirable.
    22. Provides a range of interpretation, support, and problem resolution to an assigned employee including, but not limited to, implementation of FMLA and catastrophic leave policies, compliance with ADA, FLSA, and other related regulations and internal policies.
    23. Assess compliance risk in policies and decisions and make recommendations to the leadership team.
    24. Recommend Human Resource technology solutions.
    25. Performs periodic internal audits of employee personnel records, files and documents. Researches and takes corrective actions as applicable.
    26. Maintain liaison with universities and school systems on continuing education programs.
    27. Directs the preparation of the Human Resource Department budget, as needed.
    28. Updates Federal and/or applicable state EEOC and employment activity reports.
    29. Prepare press releases and work with media in regards to notifications, position openings, etc.
    30. Represents the company in the community and promotes the company's goodwill and interest in the community.
    31. Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in collaborative manner with customers, suppliers, co-workers, and management.
    32. Support and help develop their team with professional development short and long term goals.
    33. Helps company meet its Strategic, Quality and Safety objectives.
    34. Other duties may be assigned.

    Job Requirements/Qualifications
    • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources Management or related field required; Master's degree preferred; continuing education and development in Human Resources necessary.
    • Minimum of 6 years of experience of Human Resources leadership experience involving benefits, serving on a company's management team; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required combination of knowledge, skills, and abilities.
    • Minimum of 3 years of direct supervisory experience.
    • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on tactical Human Resources generalist experience with a focus on system improvements; project and vendor management; project management experience; supervisory experience strongly desired.
    • Expertise in developing recruiting plans and retention initiatives.
    • Strong knowledge of employment law including experience/exposure to ERISA, OSHA, EEOC, FLSA, etc.
    • Experience in the development and administration of employee benefit and compensation programs.
    • Ability to establish partnering relationships with senior management in order to effectively build human resources programs that support the company's business objectives
    • Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification through the Human Resource Certification Institute (HCRI) or other similar certification preferred.
    • Intermediate MS Word-required; Intermediate MS Excel-required; Intermediate MS Power Point-required; Advanced MS Outlook required; experience with UKG/Payroll systems strongly desired.
    • Demonstrated coaching and facilitating conflict resolution skills.
    • Communication skills (Develop written communications requiring grammar skills; Interact with customers and staff on an explanatory basis; interact with groups of people and co-workers; use of telephone and paging system; and oral communication)

    • An acceptable combination of required education and experience.
    Physical Demands of Position
    • This position requires walking, sitting or standing to a significant degree.
    • Must have the ability to lift 50 pounds from floor to waist, carry 50 pounds, and push and/or pull up to 20 pounds.
    • Must have the abilityto climb ladders and/or stairs.
    • Stooping, crouching, kneeling and bending.
    • Handling, feeling, and gripping would be required for some activities.
