DEPARTMENT/PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The MAAC Community Charter School (MCCS) is an alternative, full-day public high school eight miles from the Mexican border in Chula Vista, California. Its charter is held by the Sweetwater Union High School District. MCCS has a dedicated faculty and staff that serve high risk at-risk youth from Grade 9 through age 20. Many of the students have dropped out previously or have not been successful in their prior educational settings for a variety of reasons and/or they prefer a small school environment with a student-centered curriculum. Majority of the students speak and/or understand Spanish. At MAAC Community Charter School, our mission is to prepare our students for college, career and community service. We use the arts and project-based learning to engage our non-traditional learners. MCCS serves approximately 300 students and graduates 60-80 per year. For more information, visit .
DEFINITION
Under general direction of the Special Services Executive Director interacts with district administrators, teachers, students, and care providers to support and facilitate the maintenance and development of quality services to children and adolescents.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Studies and assists pupils using various techniques including, but not limited to: conferencing, counseling, psychometrics and observation.
• Conducts functional analysis and writes appropriate behavior support plans.
• Presents verbal and written reports of the findings to appropriate staff.
• Serves as liaison between the COE, school, community, and community agencies in the understanding and treatment of learning and behavior problems.
• Serves as a member of assessment teams and individualized education program teams.
• Maintains case records on all referred students.
• Confers with teachers and parents whenever necessary.
• Consults on special educational needs.
• Serves as a consultant on mental health topics for teachers.
• Attends staff, professional and interagency meetings.
• Assists with in service training of school personnel.
• Conducts appropriate research.
• Keeps abreast of new developments in the field.
• Provides services that enhance academic performance.
• Designs strategies and programs to address problems of adjustment.
• Consults with other educators and parents on issues of social development and behavioral and academic difficulties.
• Conducts psycho-educational assessment for the purpose of identifying special needs.
• Coordinates intervention strategies for management of individuals and schoolwide crises.

HEALTH STATUS
Must have a physical examination, TB clearance and a drug screen by a doctor/clinic designated by MAAC as well as immunization records for influenza*, pertussis and measles as required by state and federal regulations prior to the first day of employment.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.
Mental Demands
While performing the duties of this class, the employee is regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret information; analyze and solve problems; observe and interpret people and situations; use basic math; learn and apply new information or skills; work under intensive deadlines and interact with MAAC management, administrators, staff, teachers, parents, family members, children and others encountered in the course of work.
BACKGROUND CLEARANCE
All positions are subject to a background/education check, DMV check, NSOR, exclusion and debarment checks prior to hire and periodically throughout employment as required by various funding sources.
Note: California Start law requires background criminal checks on anyone who works in a licensed childcare facility who is not a client. Must have or obtain a current criminal background check clearance, signed criminal record statement, and signed Acknowledgement to Report Child Abuse form prior to the first day of employment.
TRANSPORTATION
Must have and maintain a valid California Driver's License, daily use of a personal, insured vehicle, and have and maintain a motor vehicle driving record acceptable to MAAC's insurance carrier. Incumbents will be enrolled in the California DMV Pull Program.
