    Description
    PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION

    The main goal of this role is to handle complex accounting tasks involving payroll records, tax information, and payroll reports, both at the State and Federal level. This position also entails reviewing financial documents and assisting with various financial operations.


    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    The core responsibilities of this position include:
    • Managing the automated payroll and personnel system, providing training to new users, and ensuring accurate code assignments.
    • Staying up-to-date with payroll laws and regulations, along with contract interpretation related to payroll tasks.
    • Executing payroll processing activities, ensuring compliance with Fair Labor laws, and making necessary adjustments.
    • Maintaining knowledge of relevant laws and regulations, attending training sessions, and staying informed about industry updates.
    • Performing bookkeeping and clerical duties related to payroll records, including processing deductions, reconciling accounts, and preparing tax documents.
    • Assisting in payroll budget development and providing analytics and reports when needed.
    • Handling deferred compensation, FRS, and Police Pension plan deductions.
    • Reviewing new hire information and deductions to ensure accuracy.
    • Supporting other accounting and financial tasks, such as reconciliations and resolving financial discrepancies.
    • Completing administrative duties, updating forms, providing assistance to staff, and conducting research for special projects.
    • Operating various office equipment and software to fulfill job requirements.

    Ensuring the confidentiality of departmental issues and documents is also a crucial aspect of this role.


    ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

    Be prepared to take on any other related duties as needed.


    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
    • Associates degree in accounting or a business-related field.
    • Three years of experience in payroll functions and governmental accounting.
    • Strong organizational, time management, and mathematical skills.
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Word and Excel.
    • Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
    • Valid Florida driver's license required.
    • Experience with Munis software preferred; CPP or UPC certification would be a plus.

    ADA COMPLIANCE

    Physical Ability: Tasks may involve light physical effort, including some lifting and extended periods at a workstation.

    Sensory Requirements: Ability to perceive various sensory inputs and communicate effectively.

    Environmental Factors: Job tasks are typically performed in standard environmental conditions.
