    Engineering Technician III, Req. 2101

    The Engineering Tech


    III:

    Manages, advises, assists, and/or coordinates systems, components, and equipment maintenance/repair programs, and/or operations in accordance with regulatory policy, processes, and guidance.


    Essential Functions:

    • Monitors and/or ensures the operational readiness of equipment (e.g., via major maintenance, operational maintenance, services, and/or administrative and supply management policies and procedures).
    • Evaluates new and/or previously selected equipment, tools, and/or parts to reduce unnecessary duplication.
    • Plans and/or supports equipment maintenance activities.
    • Reviews maintenance problem data and performs trend analysis (e.g., engineering change proposals, material deficiency packages, material deficiency reports, failure reports).
    • Develops and/or recommends corrective actions for maintenance problems. Evaluates maintenance requirements of systems and components (e.g., services, repair, overhaul, preventative).
    • Determines the extent of necessary overhaul, repair, and/or modification.
    • Analyzes and/or develops supporting cost/benefit data for maintenance and/or repair operations.
    • Assigns criticality and/or complexity status to equipment on purchase requests.
    • Provisions assigned equipment for new and existing systems.
    • Recommends modifications to equipment as a substitute for unavailable items.
    • Selects recoverable items which require illustrated parts breakdowns and/or drawings.
    • Selects tools and test equipment required to test, inspect, calibrate, repair or overhaul the provisioned item. Recommends and/or establishes changes to maintenance, troubleshooting, and/or repair procedures.
    • Drafts, verifies, and/or publishes instructions for the operation, maintenance and modification of assigned equipment.
    • Develops and/or delivers instruction on equipment operation and maintenance. Establishes requirements for replaceable components required to maintain system operation.
    • Analyzes usage data and failure trends to establish logistic support requirements. Reviews, and analyzes repair, condemnation, and failure data, identifying spare parts levels.
    • Assists engineers to perform risk acceptance and/or mitigation recommendations for fielded parts that remain in operation with known/potential failure modes.
    • Analyzes historical failure and program data to develop future requirement estimations.

    Education:

    • Associate of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Technology or Mechanical/Electrical Technology Certification or equivalent relevant military experience required.
    • Bachelor of Science preferred.

    Experience:

    • Eight years' experience in the fabrication and assembly of complex electronic hardware and hardware assemblies with at least 4 years in accordance with approved military standards and specifications.
    • Experience in the fabrication and assembly of complex mechanical hardware utilizing engineering drawings and sketches and all applicable tools associated with the fabrication and assembly of the same.
    • At least 4 years of this experience must be in accordance with approved military standards and specifications.
