- Performs routine and non-routine activities involved in the preparation of slides for microscopic evaluation by a pathologist(s), according to policies and procedures.
- Performs operation, routine maintenance, and cleaning of all histology equipment and troubleshoots minor equipment failures.
- Performs standard histology procedures including tissue processing, embedding, sectioning, staining and image capture of fresh, frozen, and paraffin-embedded tissues and cell lines.
- Performs all the duties/responsibilities of a Histology Technician.
- Ensures proper accessioning and labeling of all tissue samples.
- Processes paperwork associated with accessioning and reporting.
- Ensures proper tissue processing.
- Embeds processed tissue in paraffin.
- Performs microtomy of embedded tissue.
- Prepares slides for routine Hematoxylin and Eosin staining.
- Performs cover slipping of stained slides either manually or automated.
- Prepares quality controls, solutions, and reagents for special stain procedures.
- Adheres to the laboratory's quality control policies and documents all quality control activities.
- Participates in Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement activities.
- Obtains and validates tissue used in special stains.
- Performs all routine and special stain procedures.
- May prepare solutions and reagents for IHC procedures.
- May obtain and validate control material used in IHC procedures.
- May perform IHC testing.
- Performs filing of finished blocks and slides.
- Provides training and guidance to Histology Technicians, students, and lab aides.
- Ensures all corporate safety, quality control, and quality assurance standards are met. Ensures compliance with all local, federal, CLIA regulations.
- Maintains a clean and well-organized work area.
- Receives and accessions tissue, cytology specimens and prepares specimens for storage, preservation, identification, and labeling.
- Pro-actively interacts with project teams and collaborators to work out experimental plans, prioritization, prepares reports and present their results.
- Checks slides under microscope to ensure consistent good results.
- Maintains immediate work area and equipment used for embedding and sectioning specimens.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- AA or AS degree or equivalent training and experience.
- HTL (ASCP), License Required.
- 5-10 year of work experience as a Histotechnologist preferred
- May travel between locations occasionally as requested.
- Typical work hours: Monday – Friday 8 AM – 5:30 PM (May vary).
- Depending on client-specific work schedule, may include other daily hours, weekends and/or holidays.
- May need to work occasional overtime as required.

Job DescriptionDescription:SUMMARY: The Histology Technician, under the direction of the Laboratory Director, Laboratory Manager or Coordinator, uses computerized equipment and records observations from tests. Performs histological procedures by cutting, mounting, and studying specimens of human tissue to provide data on the functioning of tissues and organs, and the causes or progress of disease.

Any combination of training, education, and experience equivalent to the typical years of service qualifies for level as follows:
Histology Technician I - 0-3 Years
Histology Technician II - 4-7 Years
Histology Technician III Years
