- Assesses the needs of patients and families, providing appropriate teaching and making the necessary referrals to provide continuity of care.
- Utilizes scientific principles to develop exercise prescriptions. Monitors clients response to exercise and adjusts treatment plan accordingly.
- Promptly completes documentation to assure an accurate legal record of patients care.
- Utilizes holistic approach (considering biopsychosocial, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria) appropriate to the individuals served.
- Demonstrates initiative to improve quality and customer service by striving to exceed customer expectations.
- Delegates and provides direction for other healthcare providers and hold them accountable for their involvement in the plan of care.
- Effective at directing/supervising group education/exercise classes; consistently delivers high-quality care in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Assess and chooses teaching strategies appropriate to the patients and their families specific needs, culture, gender, readiness to learn, and level of comprehension.
- Consults appropriate resources within the hospital to provide specialized education.
- Demonstrates knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents and infections and reporting potential or actual concerns immediately.
- Undergraduate degree in exercise science or related field.
- Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or obtain certification within three (3) months from date of hire.
- Writes, reads, comprehends, and speaks fluent English.
- Multicultural sensitivity.
- Microsoft Office basic computer skills.
- Customer/patient focused.
- Critical thinking skills using independent judgment in making decisions.
- Masters degree
- Previous experience in a cardiac rehabilitation setting preferred, including risk factor counseling and individualized goal setting.
- Successful completion of ECG interpretation class and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or can obtain within 1 year of hire.
- Current ACSM exercise physiology certification or within 1 year of hire.

Exercise Program Specialist Cardiac Rehab
UnityPoint Health - Allen
Shift: Part-time; 8 hr. shifts 3 days per week; 6a-230p; Will float to 830a-5p for a 2 week period every 10 weeks; weekend rotation every 7 weeks
