    Role Overview:

    This Supervisor position manages the District Testing Area Lab located in Dale, IN. This lab is the HMA Hub for Vincennes District. In addition to requirements listed in the Job
    Candidates are required to have experience in testing of HMA materials, knowledge of Design Mix Formulas, and ability to communicate material test results to both internal and external stakeholders.

    Salary:

    The salary for this position traditionally starts at $59,800.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

    CDL Positions:

    Candidates with a current CDL will earn an additional $1 per hour for this position. Candidates without a CDL will be given 90 days to obtain their CDL, with training provided by INDOT, and will then earn an additional $1 per hour upon successfully obtaining their CDL.

    Location:

    This position is located in INDOT's Dale Area.

    A Day in the Life:

    • The laboratory technician performs the necessary tests associated with the accredited laboratory.
    • This includes being responsible for the proper preparation of samples, execution of test procedures, checking of test data, calculations and input of test data, calibration and maintenance of test equipment and maintaining proficiency on existing and new test procedures.
    • Technician may also visit material producer's plants, construction jobsites or INDOT facilities to collect material samples for testing.
    • Technician will perform snow and ice removal as required.
    • Employee follows established procedures and practices.
    • Employee is responsible for completion of job assignments and accuracy of records, forms, reports, and technical information disseminated.
    • Employee must communicate tactfully and effectively with contractors and representatives of material suppliers.

    What You'll Need for Success:

    • High school graduate or equivalent.
    • Must possess a valid driver license.
    • Must have valid commercial driver's license (CDL) or ability to obtain within 90 days.
    • Required to submit to and pass a drug test as a condition of employment.
    • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
    • Ability to perform physical activities such as lifting, dragging, stooping, standing and walking for long periods of time.
    • Must be able to endure exposure to inclement weather.
    • Must have ability to read, write, and communicate clearly.
    • Ability to follow directions and work as part of a team.
    • The ability to read, interpret and follow technical documents such as AASHTO, ASTM, INDOT specifications, and Indiana Test Methods (ITM);
    • Basic knowledge of and the ability to operate and maintain material testing equipment.

    Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

    This role may provide direct supervision for one or more staff members.
