    The Health Information Management (HIM) Manager oversees the daily operations, staffing and activities related to analysis and monitoring of the integrity of content and completion of medical records, in order to meet organization and regulatory requirements at Samaritan Healthcare. The Manager plans, assigns and coordinates tasks to ensure the timely medical coding, analysis of record deficiencies, and completion of all reports and documentation required for clinical coding and hospital reimbursement.

    The individual in this position is responsible for training staff in the operation of system applications/equipment and technical aspects of assigning, processing, retrieving, releasing, and storing medical records, including legal requirements regarding HIPAA and confidentiality of medical records.

    This is a full-time salary exempt position.

      2. Responsible for reporting audit goals, resource management and fiscal stewardship, maximization of productivity and cost containment, revenue generating opportunities, and monthly operational review.

    REPORTING STRUCTURE:

    Direct Reports:

    1. Hospital and Clinic Coder, HIM Technician/Specialist, Release of Information (ROI) Clerk, Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist (CDI), and HIM Coordinator.

    The Health Information Management (HIM) Manager reports to Revenue Cycle Director.

    ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

    Education:

    • Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, Business, or equivalent training, experience, and certification (i.e., RHIT, RHIA, CSS, CPC, CCS-P or HIM). Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management preferred.

    Experience:

    • 3-5 years' of previous management experience. Experience in healthcare preferred.
    • 3-5 years' of previous experience in Electronic Health Records (EHR), electronic health systems and applications used to capture, maintain and utilize Patient Health Information.

    Skills:

    • Responsible for the direction of a diverse department, requiring skills in data-driven decision-making and continuous process improvement. Health Information Management consists of the following: Document Imaging, Professional and Hospital Coding, Identity Management, Document Integrity Management, Release of Information, Content Management, and Health Information Exchange.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Articulates and presents data, information, and ideas in a clear and concise manner.
    • Remains current of new trends and best practices and incorporates into Coding, CDI and HIM practices and programs.
    • Ability to supervise a diverse staff model. Working knowledge of functional relationships between organizational departments, including Hospital and Clinic settings.
    • Ability to interface effectively through oral and written communication with staff at all levels.
    • Ability to exercise planning, organization, delegation, and follow-through skills to effectively complete the most complex technical assignments.
    • Ability to analyze and resolve problems in a timely and efficient manner.
    • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal skills.
    • Demonstrates effective delegation skills to streamline operational workflows and optimize inter-office resources.
