    • Position Summary
      • Under general supervision, performs a variety of technical work in taking radiographs of patients for diagnostic purposes. Radiologic Technologists ensure all actions taken in carrying out responsibilities support patient centered care.
    • Position Responsibilities
      • Unit Specific Position Responsibilities
        • Cleans x ray equipment.
        • Performs related work per orientation and position competency checklists and skills validation.
        • Assists in maintaining and stocking departmental supplies.
        • Assists as assigned in training other department personnel.
        • Assists in instruction of radiology students.
        • Under supervision of a physician, may administer IV contrast material.
        • Responsible for maintaining order and cleanliness in assigned areas.
        • May schedule patients for radiology procedures.
        • Performs other assigned duties.
        • Assures safe, therapeutic environment for patients, families, visitors, and staff.
        • Participates and maintains quality improvement initiatives to promote positive patient outcomes.
        • Assists patient, families, and visitors with various needs and utilizes specific communication tools to enhance customer service.
        • Effectively communicates with patients, staff and physicians.
        • Performs all duties of Radiologic Technologist. (per scope of practice)
        • Prepares patients (neonatal through geriatric) for special radiographic examinations requiring special equipment and procedures including, myelograms, arthrograms, venograms, and interventional radiographic exams.
        • Prepares sterile tray for procedures.
        • Assists radiologists with special diagnostic and interventional radiographic procedures.
        • Determines most suitable anatomical posture and positions patients accordingly; sets x ray equipment and takes x rays for a variety of special and routine examinations.
        • Prepares electronic images for interpretation by radiologist.
        • Performs diagnostic x ray exposures on neonates through geriatric patients in the Radiology Department or other patient areas.
        • Positions the patient according to standard guides or by alternative positions on compromised patients.
        • Performs all standard procedures and may assist in some invasive procedures.
        • Performs portable exams on patients unable to come to the Radiology Department.
        • Responsible for patient's physical safety.
        • Assists the radiologist with procedures.
    • Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience
      • Required Qualifications (Including any licensure, certification, education):
        • Completion of a 24 month American Medical Association approved course in Radiologic Technology.
        • Possession of certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
        • Possession of current Iowa Permit to Practice.
        • Certified in BLS for Healthcare Providers.
        • Mandatory Reporter training within 90 days of hire and must maintain throughout employment.
      • Organizational Requirements:
        • Maintain stroke education per regulatory requirements.

      • Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
        • Ability to perform quality diagnostic radiologic procedures.
        • Ability to position patients.
        • Ability to communicate with patients, staff and physicians.
        • Ability to navigate and/or use an Electronic Health Record (EMR) and PACS system
        • Skill in providing diagnostic x ray services.
        • Knowledge of basic arithmetic, algebra and geometry, and their applications
        • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
        • Active Listening skills, giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
        • Ability to demonstrate clinical competence and maintain current knowledge in caring for neonate through geriatric patients.
        • Skill in effective oral and written communication in English.
