    Job Overview

    The BEAM Counselor will provide assistance to Summer Math Discovery participants under the supervision and direction of the BEAM Teachers and Teacher Assistants. They will serve as mentors to students and support activities and logistics for the program. Counselors in this position will engage with students through the lens of mathematics and demonstrate a knowledge of and excitement for mathematics.

    Roles and Responsibilities
    The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed in relation to the position. This is not a comprehensive listing of all responsibilities or tasks; other work may be assigned when deemed appropriate:
    • Engage with students in mathematics and non-mathematics activities
    • Mentor and encourage students in the Summer Math Discovery Program
    • Collaborate with Summer Math Discovery Program Teachers and Teacher Assistants
    • Perform work related as required
    Qualifications
    Below are the qualifications for this position:
    • Science, technology, engineering, or mathematics interest
    • Must be 16 by the start of program
    • Ability to work with effectively with children; to carry out designated instructional assignments
    • Good human relations and communication skills

    ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP:

    This part-time hourly position reports to the Supervisor of Mathematics in Teaching and Learning.

    ADDITIONAL DETAILS

    This is a part-time, non-benefited, hourly position. No guarantee of minimum hours.

    Hours: Program hours 8:00 - 3:30

    Dates: Program Staff Development days will be after school in May/June and select time on June 17 & 18

    June 20- July 19 Summer Math Discovery Program
    • The program will not run July 4-5, 2024
    Locations: Academies of Loudoun

    Reports to: Program Supervisor
    FLSA status: Non-Exempt

    Salary Level: Band Rates: Band 1

    Salary Scale:

    Salary: $14.59/hour
