    Fitness Coordinator - Campus Recreation Description

    JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Fitness Coordinator supports the organization and management of the Fitness program and Instructional Programs. This role supervises Group Exercise Instructors, Personal Fitness Trainers, and Demonstration Teachers while assisting in developing Fitness Center policies. The position, primarily located on-campus in UT Health Science Center recreation facilities, may involve evening and weekend shifts and coverage for various roles in UTHSC Campus Recreation and the Office of Student Success as needed.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Manages fitness center operations, equipment, and staff, ensuring smooth functioning and equipment maintenance.
    • Oversees group exercise program, student employees, and training sessions for members of all ages and fitness levels.
    • Leads weekly exercise classes and conducts risk management procedures in collaboration with members' medical teams.
    • Supervises weight room, cardiovascular room, and exercise studios, ensuring adherence to safety guidelines.
    • Organizes training sessions and certifications for exercise leaders and trainers, updating manuals and maintaining records.
    • Handles payroll management and other related duties as necessary.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

    EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of relevant experience or Master's Degree with one (1) year of experience. CPR/AED and First Aid Certification required or willing to complete within three months.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

    • Programming knowledge for student activities and fitness programs.
    • Management expertise in recreation facilities and equipment.
    • Ability to design and promote fitness programs effectively.
    • Familiarity with campus recreation software and fitness materials.
    • Strong communication skills and recreational knowledge.

    WORK SCHEDULE: This position may entail weekend and evening shifts with occasional travel requirements.
