    Description

    Our client is seeking a highly-motivated and collaborative individual to lead their accounting and finance function. This is an onsite role managing a small team, driving the department and will be a key contributor in this exciting San Diego startup biotech.

    Overview:

    This role will provide financial direction and analysis as well as strategic financial support to senior management. Responsibilities will include financial analysis and forecasting, budgeting, internal financial reporting and audit preparation.

    Responsibilities:

    • Serve as a strategic financial business partner to the CEO and senior leadership team to help make sound business decisions.
    • Lead all areas of accounting, both technical and transactional including financial reporting, technical accounting, technical revenue, consolidations, operational accounting, revenue close and operations.
    • Serve as primary contact with external auditors to ensure effective execution of audits, quarterly reviews, internal controls, and financial reporting activities.
    • Lead, develop, and improve the close processes for a fast-paced, growing company on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
    • Prepare regular executive presentations, board of director presentations, and budget summaries.
    • Establish and maintain accounting policies and leading practices and procedures to adapt to changes in our business and to ensure compliance.
    • Establish, monitor, and maintain internal controls over financial reporting. Improve internal controls to ensure compliance with all processes within the controllership organization.
    • Responsible for budgeting, forecasting, and reporting on a company-wide basis. Develop and maintain overall financial planning calendar and process for the current year budget, forecast updates, and long-range financial plans.

    Requirements:

    • 10+ years of progressive, relevant finance experience. Public company experience and/or previous experience in biotech highly preferred.
    • Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, finance, or economics. CPA required.
    • Deep technical knowledge and comprehensive prior expertise with accounting policy, U.S. GAAP accounting, SEC requirements and FASB.
    • Comprehensive understanding and prior experience with design and implementation of accounting policies and procedures.
    • Excellent project management and prioritization skills, demonstrated ability to succeed in fast-paced environment.
    • Ability to successfully lead and manage direct reports ensuring a strong team environment with great rapport, while maintaining a hands-on approach.
    • Ability to work onsite everyday.
    • Strong team approach and team player. Strong cross functional skills and teaming.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate strategies, analysis and recommendations clearly and effectively.
    • Expertise in utilizing enterprise systems, financial systems and reporting tools.
