    Overview


    ABOUT THE POSITIONVHB's Metro DC (Tysons, VA and Washington, DC) and I-64 (Richmond, Williamsburg, and Virginia Beach, VA) offices are seeking a GIS Analyst to join the team.

    Under moderate supervision receives assignments to conduct spatial analyses.

    Produces maps, configures web and mobile applications that express the results of analytical processes using Geographic Information System (GIS) desktop and online software.

    Coordinates the procurement and distribution of spatial data.

    Participates in the design and implementation of spatial databases and assists programming and software staff understand spatial data processes in support of creating and maintaining end-user applications.

    Under supervision prepare project plans, direct vendors, and coordinate internal team members in the completion of spatial data collection plans and projects.

    ResponsibilitiesPerforms standard and moderately complex analysis of spatial data using GIS technology (e.g., buffering, spatial overlays, distance calculations).

    Diagnosis and troubleshoots GIS software across the entire GIS software stack.
    Researches and corrects problems with data using spatial and logical analyses.
    Performs data searches and retrievals.
    Extracts and organizes data.
    Research source documents to resolve missing or conflicting data.
    Converts GIS data to CAD software format.
    Uses coordinate geometry to convert surveying data to GIS format.
    Task manages aspects of standard and moderately complex GIS projects or independently manages components of more complex GIS projects.
    Creates and manages online tools using spatial data.
    Serves as a database administrator for spatial data which may include versioning databases.
    Reviews work products of other technical staff.
    Participates in professional and personal development aligned with career goals.
    Performs all job functions in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations and VHB policies and procedures.
    Skills and AttributesWorking knowledge of the principles of geographic information science and GIS technology.

    Intermediary skill and proficient in the use of GIS software, particularly the ESRI ArcGIS platform in both its desktop and online forms.

    Proficient with Survey 123, Survey 123 Connect, Field Maps, and other mobile data collection platforms.
    Ability to develop and maintain online spatial data tools for non-GIS users.
    Intermediate skill in applying GIS technology to solve analytical problems.
    Working knowledge of relational database management systems and the ability to use the SQL language and Arcade expressions.

    Knowledge of the use and application of Global Positioning System (GPS) technology and moderate skills in the use of GPS technology for data collection.

    Ability to understand and employ LiDAR data.
    Ability to understand and automate repeated tasks using Python, R, SQL language, and/or Arcade expressions.

    Ability to utilize data transformation software as a means of importing and exporting data for use by the engineering department.

    Ability to express meaning through cartography.
    Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite with high proficiency in Excel and/or AccessExcellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

    Team oriented with ability to perform multiple tasks independently in a timely manner and collaborate effectively and positively with coworkers.

    Self-motivated, highly organized, and detail oriented.
    Qualifications3-5 years of experience in the use of GIS technologyBS in Geography, Engineering, Planning, or GISLocal VA candidates preferredGIS certification preferred
