    Description

    The Assistant Athletic Trainer will report to the Head Athletic Trainer and is responsible for assisting with injury and illness prevention, recognition, evaluation, management, treatment, disposition, rehabilitation, and return to full competition of DCCC student athletes.

    Essential Functions/Responsibilities


    • To understand and commit to the Mission of the College ~ Dodge City Community College provides a student-centered learning environment where students can achieve their educational, personal, and career goals.
    • Provide athletic training coverage of home events. Occasional travel with teams.
    • Provide information to student athletes on care and prevention of injuries.
    • Assist student athletes in preparing for therapy and recovery.
    • Assist with dressing and undressing/removing braces and/or supportive equipment or crutches.
    • Documentation of injuries, treatments, rehabilitation, and progress using electronic medical record-keeping system.
    • Assist the Head Athletic Trainer in performing various administrative tasks.
    • Communication with athletic coaching staffs regarding status of athletic injuries.
    • Advise student athletes on proper health, nutrition, strength and conditioning, and recovery regimens for a safer and successful athletic experience.
    • Assist the Head Athletic Trainer with maintaining an inventory of athletic training supplies and ordering new supplies as needed.
    • Provide a safe and sanitary environment for student athletes including, but not limited to, cleaning the athletic training rooms and inspecting for safety standards.
    • Assist the Head Athletic Trainer with supervising and recruiting student athletic trainers.
    • Facilitate and arrange appointments for athletes with local medical health professionals as needed.
    • Monitor and file athletic insurance claims. Enforcement of department policies and procedures regarding medical insurance, physical examinations, and other related activities for student athletes.
    • Primary sport responsibilities include women's volleyball and basketball, men's and women's track and field and cross country. Other coverage as necessary or designated by head athletic trainer.

    Required Qualifications


    • Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Sports Medicine, Athletic Training, or related area.
    • Certified Athletic Trainer by National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification.
    • Kansas State Athletic Trainer licensure or eligible.
    • Emergency cardiac care certification or equivalent by American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
    • Experience as an athletic trainer working with a variety of sports.
    • Ability to work cooperatively with student athletes, coaches, administrators, faculty, and college staff.
    • Verbal and written communication skills.
    • Must obtain and maintain a valid Kansas drivers license
    Preferred Qualifications


    • Master's degree in Sports Medicine or in a related area

    • Ability to communicate ideas in verbal and written form.
    • Ability to hear/receive feedback from supervisor, administrators, athletes, coaches, and student athletic trainers.
    • Ability to stand and sit for long periods of time.
    • Ability to access classroom, office, athletic fields and other campus locations.
    • Ability to occasionally carry supplies weighing 30-50 pounds.
    • Able to bend, reach and stoop to perform job functions
    • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
