    Job Summary:

    The Infection Preventionist performs under the direct supervision of the Director of Nursing. The primary responsibility is to assure that policies and procedures are developed and implemented to prevent and control infections. The Infection Preventionist has the oversight authority for cooperating with departments in performance improvement activities. Other responsibilities include surveillance, analysis, reporting, and recording as well as setting standards and evaluating Compliance for practices that are associated with the prevention and control of healthcare associated infections. Collaborates with clinical and non-clinical leaders and managers to implement prevention and control measures. Employs organizational strategies in a balanced approach that produces meaningful contributions to each element of the Formula for Success. Requires the promotion and adherence to the organization's established Compliance Program and Standards of Conduct. Demonstrates knowledge and skills to appropriately communicate and interact with the patients, families, and visitors of all age groups while being sensitive to their cultural and religious beliefs. Other responsibilities include, NHSN entry, employer health, workers compensation and other job duties as assigned.

    Performance Expectations:

    Performance expectations will be covered in the orientation to your job.
    • Has the knowledge and understanding of current regulatory standards and requirements of Infection Prevention and Control.
    • Monitors micro results, follow up with physician and patient.
    • Analyzes data and identify trends and improvement opportunities.
    • Conducts compliance rounds to monitor compliance and provide feedback to managers.
    • Communicates effectively with managers and staff, physicians, and Mississippi governmental agencies to report communicable diseases.
    • Assumes leadership role as the subject matter expert in disaster drills with an influx of epidemiology related illnesses.
    • Performs duties of licenses during facility scheduling needs.
    • Performs Annual Infection Risk Assessment for PRH-ECF and presents to leadership
    • Identifies QAPI infection prevention data to collect, plan, and implementation thereof each facility.
    • Infection Prevention Education Plan and Presentation for PRH-ECF staff annually
    • Employee Health Management and ensuring compliance of TBQF, Administer Flu Vaccine, COVID Vaccine compliance and presents reports to the appropriate meetings.
    • Prioritizes work load to maximize productivity.
    • Staff nurse during emergency operations event and as needed including staffing the unit if there is a staffing crisis.
    • On Call on Friday pm, Saturday and Sunday until 7am Mon. On a call schedule with other staff.
    • Maintains own clinical skills, staying current in nursing skills, certifications to include but not limited to, BLS, APIC and WCN.
    • Assist Nurse Educator and DON with quarterly skills check off for Nursing Service.
    • Report Hospital NHSN information.
    • Operates patient equipment safely and appropriately such as but not limited to hoyer lift, stand up lift, cardiac monitors, IV pumps, defibrillator, wound vacs.
    • Completes thorough assessment of patients when delivering beside nursing care
    • Triages patient care and assigns appropriate level of acuity of patients
    • Communicates effectively, professionally and appropriate to patient, their family and any visitors
    • Maintains a sterile field for the Provider if needed.
    • Complies with the barcode scanning of patients during medication administration time, accurately and timely.
    • Verifies orders, transcribes correctly and enters appropriately and correctly in the EMR.
    • Properly collect lab specimens, labels correctly with patient identifying information and delivers to lab in a timely manner.
    • Intervenes appropriately and timely when assessing a patient and condition warrants expedited care.
    • Participates in walking rounds at shift change when deemed necessary for staff coverage crisis.
    • Assist CM and DON as needed.
    • Maintains and updates Policies and Procedures for IP/EH
    Qualifications:

    Education/Skills

    Associate degree in nursing preferred, microbiology, or medical technology required. Graduate of a recognized non-online RN program required for nurses. Bachelor's Degree Preferred.

    Work Experience:

    An individual with previous experience in the area of infection surveillance, prevention, and control

    preferred. This person should possess a broad knowledge base and/or job experience in areas related to

    the application of epidemiological principles and infectious disease, concepts of sterilization,

    disinfection, sanitation, and adult education principles and practices related to patient care. Effective

    decision-making and communication skills are

    required. Minimum of two years clinical experience in an acute care hospital with two months of

    orientation to the position.

    • Licensed RN able to practice within the State of MS

    Mental Demands:

    Interfaces with peers, patients, public, physicians and personnel daily. Work subject to unanticipated interruptions. Data collection and analysis require focused attention. Ability to perform as a team member, cooperates with others, demonstrate initiative, set priorities, and function under stress.
