Senior Content Marketing Strategist - Houston, United States - The Hired Guns

    Default job background
    Description

It's certainly exciting to get on board with a brand-new outfit that's figuring everything out for the first time — yet there's a ton of upside to joining a team that has proven, decade after decade, that it seriously knows what it's doing.

The latter is the case here:

a publishing house (with which you're no doubt on a first-name basis) is seeking an expert strategist to run its entire ecosystem of content.

And while the company is indeed very well established, there's exciting and groundbreaking work to be done in the content arena, which injects this gig with that thrill of building out a function in a new and rewarding way.

As soon as you come through the door, you'll set out upon a content audit/refresh to determine what's been working and what hasn't, which pieces of content elevate the brand and which fail to.

Taking strong note of the fact that this function to date has been 97% Google-driven, you'll leverage your understanding of how to bridge content with commerce to begin distributing and overseeing content on a number of platforms, including web, search, social, and email, with a huge push on paid and organic social.

You'll write promos that drive revenue — often these will be blog or social posts that artfully suggest products and connect readers with the company's ecommerce site.

You'll build an influencer program and support book clubs.

You'll have a team of writers working for you (of varying skill levels), and a paid and organic search budget at your disposal.

You're closing in on a decade doing content marketing work (brand or agency), and in recent years have taken on an increasingly managerial role.

Your experience includes creation of editorialized content, branded content and native advertising — stuff that's driven the bottom line for the organizations you were working for.

You're a truly fine manager of people and budgets — truly fine — but what your colleagues and reports would probably mention first if asked about you are your writing chops: Whether it's on the brand or ad side, you have an uncanny ability to select and combine words in extremely compelling ways.

This skill carries over into your oral communication skills, which allows you to win allies throughout an organization, both horizontally and vertically.
