    Overview

    The Institute for the Creative Arts is the first Performing & Visual Arts High School in Arkansas. As a charter school, it is funded by the state.


    Our mission is:


    Empowering students through an intensive arts and academic curriculum that prepares them for higher education, creative careers, and to become future leaders in the performing and visual arts industries.


    ICA is seeking an exceptional educational leader to serve as the Founding Director of Academic Studies in the Institute's School of Academic Studies.

    This individual will lead a core academic program that includes math, science, English, Social Studies, and foreign language and serve as a bridge to Directors and faculty in the arts disciplines.

    This individual reports directly to the Dean.

    The Institute is set to open in the fall of 2024 in the new

    Center for the Creative Arts,

    a 40,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art facility located on a stunning 10-acre campus on Fort Smith's beautiful Riverfront Drive. Students in grades 9-12 will participate daily in a specific arts program with the inaugural year serving grades 9-11.


    The ideal candidate will have significant administrative experience at the high school level and be deeply committed to a learning process that respects and nurtures students' curiosity, creativity, intellect, and passion.

    The candidate will lead a group of core instructors who are committed to helping each student excel to their full potential.

    In addition, the candidate will be experienced in a core academic subject and able to teach in that area. This individual will have knowledge of program development, implementation, and evaluation.

    Priority will be given to candidates who have an interest in working in an arts school with creative students and possess the ability to assist students in their creative endeavors.


    Candidates must have the ability to work collaboratively and thrive in a diverse setting of instructors and artist-teachers to provide assistance with student projects and performances when needed.

    He/She will shepherd a group of instructors in the School of Academic Studies to develop a premier program. He/She will also have a role in the design of the new facility.

    Requirements

    A Bachelor degree in a specific core discipline, Masters a plus

    Three years of teaching experience is preferred, particularly at the high school level

    Team builder, highly organized and possessing excellent customer service/communication skills

    Dynamic and energetic leadership qualities

    Ability to collaborate and involve community partners

    Ability to recruit and mentor students

    Ability to direct and oversee all core instructors

    Ability to oversee the collaboration of core instructors with arts instructors and assist students in achieving their artistic goals

    Must meet Arkansas Qualified Teacher Requirements

    Other duties as assigned by Head of School

    Responsibilities

    Coordinate and manage instruction and curriculum in core academic studies

    Assist in recruiting instructors for core classes

    Assist in developing the curriculum for the discipline of expertise

    Assist in parent engagement and recruitment and retention of students and engage core faculty in participating in these areas

    Teach in area of expertise

    Prepare students for college and beyond

    Lead in collaborations with arts instructors and students

    Engage with all Directors for program and project development and activities

    Physical requirements

    Be able to stand for the majority of the school day in order to effectively monitor and supervise students

    Be able to walk short distances to supervise students between classrooms and activities

    Be able to sit, stand, lean, reach, bend, lift and squat to assist students as needed

    Be able to walk on uneven surfaces (playground)

    Be able to walk up and down stairs

    Be outside in all weather conditions for assigned duty (recess, before school drop offs, after school pick- ups and field trips)

    Salary

    Full-time contract. Salary commensurate with qualifications. $50,000 and up.
