    Default job background
    Description

    Job Description:

At IPS, youll apply your knowledge, skills, and passion to make a difference in the lives of people, solving complex challenges related to pharmaceutical, biotech, and animal health research and manufacturing facilities. Were looking for an experienced, creative mid to senior-level Electrical Engineer, recognized for technical expertise, to work independently on various design projects concurrently. Responsibility will include oversight of the entire design process or assisting as a technical expert on a specialized design.

As an experienced electrical engineering career, youll prepare design computations and quantity estimates and develop probable construction cost estimates for electrical projects (medium voltage power distribution, low voltage systems, fire alarm systems, backup power generation, electrical power distribution, life safety systems, etc.). Youll also use computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents (AutoCAD, Revit, etc.). Making calculations will require the use of engineering formulas and skills for design such as lighting calculations, power distribution calculations, equipment sizing, etc.

Based in the Kansas City area, youll research design options and document findings for Project Designers/Engineers or write electrical design scopes of work based on preliminary reviews and meetings with clients. Youll also prepare engineering studies and schematic designs for new systems and analyze the operation of existing systems. Some drawings youll create yourself, and other sketches will be incorporated into drawings by drafters. You may create specialized drawings such as electrical riser diagrams. These drawings and designs must be done in accordance with company production and design standards. Youll then select equipment based on Project Designer/Engineer recommendations and fill out equipment schedules. When code issues arise, youll research them and ask general questions of code officials. Youll also do estimating, review contractor application for payments, review construction budgets, and coordinate document completion.

You will regularly interact with clients, listening to their needs, and positively demonstrating the IPS focus on client experience. Youll build strong relationships with internal design teams and external clients as you work to provide solutions, all while building life-impacting facilities.

Work schedules are flexible with a hybrid model. Youll be expected to travel for occasional meetings and site visits (around 5-15% of your time).

    Qualifications & Requirements:
    • Professional electrical design experience from feasibility and conceptual design through final commissioning and closeout.
    • Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
    • Expertise in computer operation for engineering design programs and computer-aided drafting (AutoCAD, Revit, etc.).
    • Experience with the design of building electrical systems, such as building service, power distribution, generators, lighting, fire alarm, security, and other low voltage systems.
    • Understanding of the National Electric Code (NEC), NFPA 70E, NFPA 72, IBC, and other related building codes and standards.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Engineer in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE).
    • Pharmaceutical, Biotech, Nutraceutical, or Life Science industry experience.
    • Experience with medium voltage systems, electrical hazardous classified areas, and telecommunications systems.
