Results Statement: I am accountable for producing the following results:
One Southern Indiana (1si) expects this position to be accountable for marketing writing, social media and public relations coordination for 1si, the OSI Foundation, and Special Initiatives. This position serves as a key member of the Community Messaging Team, and will work in conjunction with the Database and Communications Manager, the Director of Program, Events and Groups, and other key staff members as they implement programs, events and special initiatives.
This Content Marketing and Media Relations Manager position is responsible for writing copy for all marketing pieces, major reports, news articles and press releases, in addition to scripting 1si's signature events. While reporting directly to the Director of Investor Relations, this position will serve to assist various team members as they prepare documents for member, investor and public consumption to ensure 1si's message is clear, factual and consistent with the themes and direction of the organization.
Additionally, the Content Marketing and Media Relations Manager will manage all media interactions in a timely manner to position 1si as the expert in those areas in which we excel. These duties may be proactive, in the case of writing and distributing press releases, or reactive, in the case of responding to media inquiries and requests for interviews and articles.
The Content Marketing and Media Relations Manager will also increase 1si's social media presence across multiple platforms and with a variety of creative content designed to promote our programs, events, staff and activities, as well as our business members.
Essential Job Functions
1. Manages 1si's local, regional and national media relations activities, including writing and distributing news and press releases to the media and coordinating 1si interviews, news conferences and other public briefings.
2. Assists senior staff, including President, Vice President of Economic Development, in preparing and writing speeches, talking points and presentations for events and programs, as needed.
3. In conjunction with the Database and Communications Manager, writes copy for invitations, reports, brochures and other materials, ensuring clarity and consistency of message.
4. Drafts copy for and coordinates approvals by pertinent staff members for the 1si Annual Report.
5. Proofs copy for all projects prior to print or distribution.
6. Creates and implements ongoing social media strategies, including video content creation and production, in conjunction with the Database and Communications Manager.
7. Responsible for creating social media posts to promote 1si's activities and events, as well as for member news and highlights.
8. With guidance from the Director of Programs, Events and Groups, responsible for drafting scripts and talking points for key presenters, sponsors and leadership.
9. Regularly drafts articles on subjects important to small businesses for inclusion in 1si publications and distribution throughout social media platforms.
10. Develops and maintains relationships with media representatives.
11. Assists with grant proposals and award submissions, as needed.
12. Attends 1si events to assist in building and promoting member relations.
13. Other duties as assigned.
Essential Skills and Experience
1. Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university in Communications, Marketing, or other relevant field of study, or two (2) years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures, etc. necessary to maintain a sound operation.
3. Experience managing social media platforms and creating content through Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, etc.
4. Ability to motivate and influence diverse groups of people.
5. Must show ability to be self-motivated and results driven.
6. Strong written communication skills in the use of the English language.
7. Excellent interpersonal skills and phone etiquette.
8. Ability to work effectively in a team environment with minimal supervision and demonstrates good initiative.
9. Ability to work flexible hours.
10. Proficiency in PC systems using word processing, database and spreadsheet applications. Microsoft Office preferred. Requires operation of assorted office equipment.
11. Professional Appearance.
Essential Physical Requirements and Work Environment
1. Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include: sitting, standing, or walking for extended periods of time; operating office equipment; arrange meeting room tables and chairs; and lifting up to 25 pounds.
2. Visual Acuity; ability to see and hear within normal parameters, must use hands and fingers to use keyboard and mouse; operate equipment or controls; reach above shoulder heights, below the waist; or lift to file documents or store materials throughout the work day. Proper lifting techniques required.
3. Ability to self-transport from office to client/member/investor/vendor meetings, and 1si events and programs.
4. Dress for this position is business casual or business attire (unless the day's tasks require otherwise). A clean, professional, well-groomed appearance is expected.
Supervision of Others
This position is not responsible for direct supervision of any staff members at this time.
