    Job Description

    An Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) assists patients/residents/clients with therapy activities and exercises scheduled in a treatment plan, under the supervision of an occupational therapist.

    The OTA provides, monitors, and records therapy services to patients/residents/clients with physical, cognitive, developmental, and psychosocial impairments, aligned with related standard concepts, practices, and procedures.

    The OTA selects, implements, and modifies therapeutic activities and interventions consistent with demonstrated competency levels, patient goals, and practice setting requirements.

    The OTA contributes to the process by exchanging information with and providing documentation to the occupational therapist about patient responses and communications during intervention.

    The OTA is responsible for being knowledgeable about targeted occupational therapy outcomes and providing information related to outcome achievement.

    Requirements

    Must be licensed as an Occupational Therapy Assistant in the state(s) of practice.

    In some locations, certification as an Occupational Therapy Assistant through the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) is also required.
