- High School Diploma or GED
- Must have valid Texas Operator's License
- Must have good report writing and interviewing skills
- Must be mentally and physically fit to perform duties
- Demonstrate ability to effectively communicate with District employees and general public
- Must have a 5 year K9 handler experience with a Military, Government or Law Enforcement agency
- Must pass K9 handler course after being hired
- Physically capable of performing all duties
- Ability to interpret laws, policies, and procedures
- Must have law knowledge
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to operate personal computer to develop databases and do word processing
- Canine handler must stay informed on all new canine training techniques. Must be aware of any legislation or laws affecting the canine concept and be able to give information to the District Security Supervisor on the impact of that law or legislation.
- Have a working knowledge of the geographic layout of the district
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate (verbally/written) effectively with the students and parents
- Treat K9 with respect and decency
- Copy of High School Diploma, GED or Equivalent
